Location: Create in the Community (Across London with training in E16 3NR)

We are looking for Therapeutic Education Assistants (specialised learning mentors) to support high risk and complex neurodiverse pupils directly. You will work with pupils in the community (e.g. hubs, training centres or libraries) or in the pupils’ home, and provide them with a differentiated and holistic education, supported by educationalists, therapists, social workers and experts in nurturing and therapeutic education. You will deliver bespoke learning programmes for pupils who require intensive intervention for academic, social and emotional development.

The Complete Education Solution (TCES)

TCES is an independent social enterprise, providing specialist education based in London supporting exceptional neurodiverse children and young people aged 7 to 19 who have special educational needs and disabilities typically associated with autism, social emotional and mental health needs and associated disorders. Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. On average pupils will have been excluded from other provisions up to three times before reaching us and had significant periods out of education.

TCES pupils learn at one of our two schools, at our Create Learning Primary in Barking, through our Create in the Community service or within our Home Learning service. Create in the Community supports our most complex and vulnerable pupils, with highly differentiated and personalised holistic therapeutic education programmes developed for each pupil focusing on developmental milestones. When they are ready, we aim for pupils to step down from Create into one of our main schools, our Sixth Form, or into a mainstream provision.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are:

  • Positive role model, with high levels of emotional intelligence and resilience.
  • Minimum of one year's experience working directly with high risk and complex pupils in a recognised social work, youth work or education setting.
  • Hold Literacy and Numeracy qualifications at level two or above (or equivalent qualifications).
  • Substantial experience of supporting neurodiverse young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) or those labelled as demonstrating challenging behaviour.

In return we offer :

  • Competitive salary and terms and conditions.
  • An opportunity to make a real difference and join a leading provider of specialist education, directly contributing towards positive outcomes for pupils with SEMH and ASC.
  • Weekly day of unique training (Friday) at out Therapeutic and Training Centre (E16 3NR).
  • Excellent CPD opportunities with all staff provided an individual Learning & Development Plan to support career development, including education qualifications at all levels (QTS / QTLS / NPQs) and options to take progressive Ofqual registered Level 3 – 5 qualifications in Therapeutic Education.
  • Comprehensive induction process, including all pupil-facing staff supported in receiving the Level 3 Award in Therapeutic Education and Group Process.
  • Regular half termly staff wellbeing days.
  • A range of employee support and wellbeing benefits including our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), counselling and contributions towards medical costs and an  exclusive rewards platform.

Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. We are committed to achieving the best outcome for each pupil and their family through access to excellent education and family support.

TCES Create in the Community runs parallel to our independent day schools. Here education focuses on the developmental milestones and a holistic curriculum. Every pupil goes through a different journey with Create in the Community, with highly differentiated and personalised education programmes developed for each pupil who need intensive support as part of our ‘step down’ mode.

On joining us, pupils will have already – on average – experienced three permanent exclusions, been out of full-time education for up to 18 months and are recognised to be substantially at risk of being unemployed, developing severe mental health problems and involvement with the criminal justice system later in life. Between 3 and 5 years after leaving a TCES school or service, 90% of our students are in education, training or employment.
