About Inclusion College 

Inclusion College is an independent non-maintained special college, with places funded by local authorities, established to support the social, emotional, and mental health complexities of young people with an EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) and enable them to access a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum through a nurturing, safe and inclusive environment. 

We are as passionate about our staff’s mental health and wellbeing as we are about our learners which is why we are in receipt of a Leeds Beckett, University Carnegie Gold medal Award for Mental health in schools and a mental health committed employer with our Employee Assistance Programme and supportive culture.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Key Worker: Responsibility for pastoral care of key students 
  • Individualised Instruction: Develop and deliver personalized learning plans that address the specific needs and abilities of students with SEND and SEMH requirements. 
  • Planning and delivery: planning and delivery of lessons based on schemes of work leading to accreditation including compiling student folders to ensure accreditation work is completed and able to be submitted. 
  • Support and Mentoring: Provide emotional and academic support, mentoring students to build confidence, resilience, and independence in their learning journey working in small groups and 1-1. 
  • Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress, maintaining detailed records, marking work and adjusting teaching methods as necessary. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including other tutors, teachers, support workers, therapists, and external agencies, to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's education. 
  • Parental Involvement: Engage with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on student progress and involving them in the educational process. 
  • Professional Development: Stay current with best practices and developments in SEND and SEMH education through continuous professional development and training. 
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by adhering to college safeguarding policies and procedures. 


 Skills, Experience & Qualification Requirements  

Essential:

  • A nationally accepted qualification to teach in the life long learning sector at Level 3 or above and or a Level 4 teaching qualification and willingness to work towards a Level 5 teaching qualification 
  • Experience working with students with SEND and/or SEMH needs in an educational setting. 
  • Strong understanding of SEND and SEMH strategies and interventions. 
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with young people conducive to a learning environment 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills 
  • Ability to develop and implement effective individualised learning plans. 
  • Knowledge of applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures and promoting the welfare of the young people 
  • Ability to accurately and clearly record case notes with a good standard of writing and IT skills 
  • If teaching a specific vocational area, there should be appropriate qualifications, expertise and experience of working in that industry sector 
  • Experience and ability to use IT particularly Microsoft  Office
  • Ability to use initiative and think creatively about problems, positively engage with all aspects of the college  

 Desirable: 

  • Experience of working in SEND/SEMH education and or qualifications/ training in this area 
  • Experience in a secondary or further education (FE) settings. 
  • Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies

  • Creativity in designing engaging and accessible learning activities. 
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. 
  • Commitment to inclusive education and the empowerment of all learners. 
  • Resilient, hardworking and a collaborative team member  
  • Knowledge and experience of supporting mental health and other complex needs.  
  • Ability to listen to and communicate effectively and empathetically with young people aged 16 -25.
