Salary: £30,000 - £38,000 per annum

Contract: Permanent, Term Time only

Are you an experienced UKS2 Class Teacher that is seeking a better work-life balance?

The School are looking to recruit a teacher, with experience of teaching Upper Key Stage Two, to their team. You will deliver a primary curriculum to secondary pupils with autism and associated needs. Ideally you will have previous experience as a core curriculum subject lead, but this is not essential.

Set in the heart of Oakham town, the School is an independent day school for autistic young people, and those with associated needs, offering specialist secondary education for pupils aged 11 – 18.

About the role

Experience of closing the gaps for disadvantaged and SEND pupils would be beneficial as you would be supporting autistic teenagers that have struggled throughout their school journey to achieve their academic and life goals.

Class groups are small allowing you to focus on each pupil’s needs; all of their pupils are treated as an individual, one size does not fit all and they recognise that in their approach to learning by adapting their teaching to meet individual needs. They are looking for staff with a knowledge and understanding of autism and developmental trauma, who can apply that knowledge in all of their dealings and interactions with the young people they support. They use an “in their own time and space” philosophy to support their pupils to navigate their lives. They focus on understanding behaviour for communication and use this to help support their social and emotional development. They have a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.

They need teachers who have a passion for working with pupils, have a compassionate, caring manner and a mature, non-judgemental approach to life. You will be a clear communicator and resilient.

At the School, they have a maximum of 5 pupils per class with adult support therefore reducing paperwork and they allocate 7 ½ hours per week of non-contact time for training, PPA, meetings, etc. Staff enjoy a cooked lunch with pupils each day and time is set aside to focus on staff wellbeing.

Qualifications required: QTS.

This role is not suitable for an ECT.

About the school

The School is an Independent Special School for 11-18 year olds who are Autistic and have associated diagnosis and special education needs. The school delivers a specialist curriculum for pupils who have struggled to cope in a mainstream or larger SEN educational setting and are, as a result, working below age expected stage. Pupils are taught in small class groups of 4 -5 with a high staff to pupil ratio. Pupils are supported to achieve their Outcomes within their Education Health Care Plan, develop life skills and achieve accreditations in Maths, English and Science.

For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to pupils, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties. As part of Outcomes First Group, we are leading their sector in setting and delivering new approaches that provide measurable outcomes for those in their care.
