The British College of Gava (www.bcgava.com) an IB World School, near Barcelona is seeking to appoint an exceptional Whole School Deputy Head. This role is a new position which has been created as a consequence of the recent rapid growth and exciting future of this wonderful school. We are seeking an experienced school leader to join our excellent team at the end of August 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our new purpose built, expanding school with exceptional facilities. 

Primary objective:

To provide continual and unwavering support to the Head Teacher in all aspects of school life, including deputising as required. Embody the Group and School vision compellingly, leading strategically to ensure its realisation. Build and maintain positive working relationships with all members of the school community. Keep up to date with developments across the Inspired Group and in wider education. Work with political and financial astuteness, translating policy into the school’s context. Lead by example, holding and articulating clear values and moral purpose with a clear focus on ensuring excellence for the students at the school. Under the direction of the Head Teacher, ensure that best practice is maintained and to lead on the operational, academic and pastoral arrangements of the school. To ensure that all students receive the best possible education.


Areas of responsibility:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Heads of Phase (Primary / Secondary)
  • Continually develop and maintain the school self evaluation documents and processes
  • Coordinate the formulation and development of the school’s aims and objectives
  • To establish policies and procedures to achieve the school’s aims and objectives
  • To allocate staff resources to enable the school to achieve its aims and objectives
  • Oversee the effective implementation of a quality assurance framework
  • Oversee the school’s appraisal processes
  • Implement whole school procedures for the accurate collection, analysis and communication of student progress and attainment
  • With the Head Teacher, identify staffing needs and run recruitment processes to fill them
  • In conjunction with the Heads of Phase, coordinate the whole school calendar and work to ensure the overall smooth running of the school
  • To help with student recruitment, Open Days and other marketing events as necessary.
  • To design and implement an effective whole school timetable 


Staff responsibility

  • Under the agreement of the Head Teacher, the direct line management of Heads of Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form.
  • To support senior and middle leaders with any issues arising in the leadership of their teams
  • To work closely with the SENDCo and EAL Coordinator to ensure continued excellence in our support provision


Student responsibility

  • Through effective delegation and shared responsibility, ensure that all phases, year groups and classes achieve the school’s attainment and progress targets
  • Support the continued development of the House system throughout the school


Teaching responsibility

  • To teach lessons per week as required. The Deputy Head must be adaptable and open to the delivery of classes outside of their specific subject or age range to support the smooth running of the school
  • To support with cover and duty as needed by the Heads of Phase


Teaching Specifications:

  • UK Trained with qualified teacher status - essential
  • Recognised Bachelor’s degree - essential
  • Recognised Masters or post graduate qualification - desired
  • Secondary school teaching experience - essential
  • Knowledge and understanding of English National curriculum – essential
  • Knowledge of the IB programmes – preferable
  • UK passport holder or right to work in the EU - desired


Safeguarding:

  • The post holder will be required to:
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding policies.
  • Abide by the staff code of conduct. 
  • Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead as a priority to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students at the school.


Time allowance: up to 50% Teaching timetable
