We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Attendance Officer to join John Smeaton Academy. This role is of great importance to our work as an Academy, the successful candidate will support the actions of the Attendance team in improving attendance and punctuality throughout and to implement the Academy Attendance Strategy.

 

The ideal applicant will have:

 

·      Good ICT Skills

·      Excellent communication skills

·      Knowledge and understanding of key government legislation surrounding attendance.

About us:

 

John Smeaton Academy was the subject of a divestment order from the Secretary of State and became a part of The GORSE Academies Trust on 1 September 2021. Since this date the academy has undergone a significant transformation that sees it rising in popularity within the local community. Students now benefit from significant improvement in behaviour standards and teaching and learning.

 

GORSE have established a long-standing culture of excellence where ‘high challenge, high support’ is commonplace. Our trust will be made up of 15 establishments by September 2025. In addition to this, we also operate GORSE SCITT and Leeds Teaching School Hub, important establishments in their own right. Ensuring that each element of the trust, including the central team, performs at its best to ensure all children, especially those whose who are disadvantaged, have the opportunity to secure the Gift of Choice, is the central mission of GORSE.

I am delighted to welcome you to our website for John Smeaton Academy. Our school website provides useful information for students, parents/carers and our community to access and gives a sense of the truly exceptional transformation that we embarked upon on 1 September 2021 when we joined The GORSE Academies Trust. When we did so the Ofsted ratings of previous years became formally a part of the past and our new, fresh-start future began, a future in which the students and community of John Smeaton Academy will work together in partnership to ensure our students achieve outcomes aligned with their top performing peers nationally. These outcomes will, in turn, give them access to progress into their chosen, high-quality destinations in Education, Employment and further Training (EET) and ultimately to go on to study in some of the best universities in the world.

As the Principal of John Smeaton Academy, I feel privileged to lead the academy at this exceptionally exciting time. As we approach the start of our third year within The GORSE Academies Trust, I want to further strengthen the incredible progress that has been made since September 2021 and continue to raise the standard that has transformed the academy thus far.

John Smeaton Academy aspires for all young people to leave their time with us having secured ‘The Gift of Choice’. Our key drivers that enable us to achieve this are centred around five key areas within the curriculum. Our curriculum is designed to instil exceptional standards, equipping our students with ambitious standards. It is designed to remove barriers so our students can maximise progress and access appropriate challenge, build resilience by ensuring that students are routinely exposed to challenging and difficult concepts and ideas (the Purple Zone).
