Job overview

Rhodes Wood Hospital School wishes to appoint a Deputy Head Teacher to join our friendly, thriving school in September 2024. This is a superb opportunity for a dynamic and experienced leader who is passionate about curriculum development and driving high standards of teaching and learning. The ideal candidate will have had a leadership or specialised role, preferably in a special school setting, although not essential.

We are looking for a collaborative individual who will work closely with the Head Teacher and staff to ensure the curriculum offer is responsive to current and future developments while ensuring we remain focused on providing pupils with the highest possible quality experience. You will have a clear sense of outstanding performance in a hospital school environment and a track record of consistently delivering good outcomes. In addition, given the focus of our values on pupils, staff, and our community, you will be a visible and outwardly focused leader who enjoys building positive relationships with a range of stakeholders.

Our school is a part of Rhodes Wood Hospital, an eating disorder unit. The pupils in our care are aged between 8 to 18 years, with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder. As part of their hospital stay, pupils are able to continue with their studies in our school, which is instrumental to them when reintegrating into their mainstream school setting.

If you feel you can make a difference in a unique, creative, and exciting setting with a family feel like ours and are able to help maintain and improve on the latest rating of "Good" at our last Ofsted inspection, then we would like to hear from you.

We can offer the following:

  • An opportunity to lead on curriculum and teaching, and learning across the whole school
  • Pupils who enjoy learning and want to come to school every day
  • A dedicated staff team who are enthusiastic and who want the best for the pupils
  • A supportive Governing Body
  • A well-resourced school
  • A salary package commensurate with the size of the school – up to 39 pupils on roll
  • A CPD package tailored to suit your stage of career development

This opportunity has come about due to a late resignation.

We encourage you to visit the school. Alternatively, you can contact us for further information at 01707 655344 or email the school administrator, Sharon Tuffnell, at stuffnell@elysiumeducation.co.uk

The closing date is Wednesday 22nd May at 9.00 am. Interviews will take place on Friday, 24th May.
