Job overview

Full-time or part-time considered

We are looking for a Textiles Specialist who is willing with suitable CPD to teach all disciplines within Design Technology.

We are proud that Outwood Grange Academy is rated Outstanding by Ofsted and we are delighted to be based in the city of Wakefield. We are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

The Design Technology department is situated in 9 purpose rooms including 3 workshops, 2 fully equipped Food Technology and 2 fully equipped Textiles rooms and 2 CAD/CAM suites. The department encompasses a wide range of disciplines at KS3 including Product Design, Textiles, Engineering and Food Technology. Design and Technology aims to support our students in becoming independent, confident, creative and resilient learners. We do this partly through a new and innovative curriculum model where at its heart we strive to fuel curiosity, creativity and the capacity to solve complex problems. At KS4 we currently offer progression to three popular courses Product Design, Textiles or Hospitality and Catering. At KS5 we currently run Product Design, however, with the increasing popularity of DT at KS4 we are currently looking to introduce new courses in the near future to supplement our KS5 curriculum. All specialisms will be considered, however, the ability to teach across multiple disciplines at KS3 and Catering and Textiles at KS4 would be desirable.

Our vision is to always put students first in order to raise standards and transform lives. To make this happen, we innovate constantly, including a curriculum that is designed to enable personalised learning in depth and with breadth. We ensure that additional teaching time and resources are provided to support students to leave with a solid foundation of good and better grades.

With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic talent equally and focus on building transferable skills that result in real-world success.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Technology teacher to make a significant contribution to ongoing development of the curriculum and department. You should possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference and have a firm love of your subject and a desire to support our young people to reach their full potential.

Please contact John Fretwell Head of Technology by email j.fretwell@grange.outwood.com for an informal discussion or to arrange a visit to the academy.

We are an Outstanding rated, 11-18 academy based in the cathedral city of Wakefield, near Leeds.

The Outwood Family was born out of our academy’s success and we are proud that after our last inspection, Ofsted paid tribute to the ‘academy staff and leaders for the way they ensure you get the best education possible.’

We have nurtured a school community that is welcoming and friendly, where students and staff can make excellent progress together, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.
