Job overview

Are you an inspirational leader, looking to further your career in the independent education sector?

If you have excellent management skills and are an ambitious Head of Faculty/Department or someone looking to move into a Deputy Head level position this could be the opportunity for you.

The role

As the Director of Junior School, you will provide vision and leadership to the Junior School on behalf of and in collaboration with the Head of Northampton High School.

You will ensure that all pupils aged 2 - 11 receive the best possible care, have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, and achieve the highest standards, in line with the ethos of the school and within the context of an independent girls-only, all-through 2-18 years school.

You will contribute to the overall school Senior Leadership Team as required, implementing strategy such as admissions, finance, teaching and learning, pastoral and safeguarding, in addition to ensuring that curriculum provision is appropriate and relevant to the needs of all Junior School pupils.

About you

To be considered for this role, you will be:

  • A visionary leader, able to operate as part of the whole school Senior Leadership Team, setting high standards which promote excellence, inspire trust, confidence and respect within the entire school community
  • A strategic thinker able to articulate and share the all-through school vision of Northampton High School
  • A well-qualified, talented individual who has a sound understanding of the requirements of an all-girls, all-through school, and an appreciation of the opportunities that come from working closely with a linked Senior School
  • Able to drive recruitment and raise pupil numbers within the Junior School

We are keen to hear from those with considerable leadership experience from within the independent school sector, however this does not have to come from a Junior School/Prep setting. We are interested to hear from those looking for their next step into senior management and would also welcome applications from current Heads of Faculty or those looking for Deputy Head equivalent level positions.

Values and vision

At Northampton High School, we believe in a complete education that’s made for girls and young women. Everything about our school is carefully considered from our purpose-built site to our inspirational teachers and our first-class pastoral care.

Our school is bursting with spirited students who we encourage to learn without limits.

We’re not here to pigeonhole or conform to stereotypes. Instead, we encourage our girls to be curious and independent, resilient and brave; to lead and be individuals whilst recognising the value of collaboration and teamwork.

In doing so, we turn “can we?” into “we can!”, unleashing the potential in a generation of girls and young women who can go on and define a future on their own terms.

ISI report

“The quality of the pupils’ achievements and their learning, attitudes and basic skills is excellent. The school is successful in meeting its aim to enable girls to achieve their academic, creative and athletic potential."

“Pupils show high levels of knowledge, understanding and skills; they are able to develop their talents and to achieve success both as individuals and in teams...Pastoral care is outstanding, with effective measures in place to ensure that girls are well supported, securely safeguarded and encouraged to embrace opportunities”
