Job overview

We are looking to appoint an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) who is enthusiastic and motivated to join our Learning Support Team. The role is to provide support for children with identified social, emotional and behavioural needs through the running of specific programmes and activities to assist the pupils’ individual needs and development.

You will have an opportunity to develop and deliver one to one emotional literacy support programmes and social skills in small groups for students who have difficulties understanding, identifying and managing their emotions so that they can develop these skills and subsequently become more emotionally resilient. The successful candidate will be expected to provide both individual and small group support to students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. You will also be timetabled to supervise the Student Support Centre classroom as part of the team schedule.

We are looking for someone to contribute to the improvement in outcomes, by supporting students to develop their emotional literacy in order to engage them with learning and school life.

You will help address issues such as stress, emotions, social interactions and self-esteem on an individual basis, linking with appropriate members of staff where necessary.

This role is about working with students, staff and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for our students who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. You will play a key role in the school as we strive to further develop our learning support.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and dedicated, with a passion for working with pupils who require additional support with their education.

As your professional development is important to us, we offer a comprehensive package of CPD opportunities, including nationally recognised qualifications that suit all types of career progression. These are widely available, free of charge through the ALI (the Aspirations Learning Institute) at all of the Aspirations Academy schools. In addition, Budmouth has its very own Well-being Charter and working group, as we genuinely prioritise the well-being of our staff.

Budmouth Academy Weymouth is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check. We value the diversity of our workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
