Job overview

Full Time, Term time only

St Joseph's College is a vibrant independent day and boarding school in Ipswich providing a broad and seamless education for over 600 boys and girls aged 2 - 19. We provide a wide range of stimulating and challenging opportunities that our pupils embrace in both the academic and extra-curricular life of the College.

St Joseph’s College is delighted to welcome applications for the post of Head of Boarding. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and well organised individual who will help us make our two boarding houses a ‘home from home’, a supportive family environment which will help our fantastic young people to thrive. Located in Ipswich we have two busy boarding houses made up of students from the UK and across the world. The happiness and welfare of each and every one of our boarders is the most important thing to us and we are therefore looking for dedicated, talented and caring individuals who want to embrace all that leading and managing a boarding house in a successful independent school has to offer.

The Head of Boarding is responsible for the daily life and running of the boarding houses and will have overall pastoral and academic responsibility for the well-being of all boarding students in their care. This will include the development of student leadership opportunities within Boarding and ensuring the implementation and effectiveness of student voice within the Boarding house.

Integral to this role is the positive promotion and advocacy of Boarding, both internally and externally through effective marketing and the development of relationships leading to the recruitment and retention of new students and staff.

The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator who will bring real energy and dynamism to the role, alongside genuine enthusiasm and passion for supporting young people. The Head of Boarding will be a visible leader with exceptional interpersonal skills who is able to communicate effectively and sensitively with a wide range of stakeholders from different cultural backgrounds.

Ideally, the successful candidate will be an experienced pastoral leader with proven track record of success working with young people and Boarding, but above all, we are looking for individuals who we can entrust with overseeing the safety, good discipline and pastoral wellbeing of our boarders.

As this is a residential role, rent-free accommodation is provided with all council tax, utilities and all meals during term time included.

The successful candidate to start at the earliest opportunity.

Further details and an application form can be found at https://www.stjos.co.uk/community/vacancies/ or by contacting the HR Officer by email (careers@ stjos.co.uk) or telephone (01473) 690281.

The closing date for applications is Midday on 8 May 2024. The College reserves the right to interview prior to the closing deadline, so early applications are encouraged.

St Joseph’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to undertake child protection screening appropriate to the post, including an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service. Please be advised that applications cannot be accepted unless they are on the College’s Application Form. References will be taken up and will be carefully checked. DBS charge payable by applicant.
