Job overview

Our aim at Barrow Hills is to inspire happy children.

Children at Barrow Hills are growing to be … Curious about everything; and Brave when meeting new challenges. Scholarly in the way that they learn and in their love of learning. Compassionate towards others, in the School and in the wider world. Generous of spirit, and in sharing their time and their gifts; and Joyful in their appreciation of their families, their friendships, their School and the world. Truthful and true to themselves, and Responsible in what they say and in what they do.

The Pre-Prep at Barrow Hills comprises Nursery to Year 2 (ages 2 to 7). In Nursery, Kindy, and Reception, the Early Years framework is the basis for all our teaching and learning and our team ensure that good foundations are laid. The learning journey begins in Nursery where our youngest children learn to share and socialise with others prior to moving on to Kindy and Reception and then into Key Stage 1. Our small-sized classes are led by excellent teachers and practitioners, aided by assistants and specialist teachers, allowing children to progress and be supported so that they become confident in themselves and their work. We celebrate individual success in many areas of school life in class and in assembly.

The Prep department runs from Year 3 to Year 8. As the children move through Years 3 and 4, they are incrementally introduced to subject specialist teaching, which is implemented in its entirety from Year 5. Children are prepared for entrance assessments to their chosen senior schools at either Year 6 (11+) or Year 8 (13+), with some being entered for academic, music, drama, art or sport scholarships.

In this role, you would be responsible for the overall academic development of each child within your specialist subject area in the safe, caring and stimulating environment of the school. Additionally, we would expect you to perform the role of a Form Teacher in the older year groups and contribute to other areas of school life. This could mean teaching within another department commensurate with your skill set and being involved in the variety of activities, trips, visits and events that Barrow Hills offers its children.

As well as a wonderful group of children to work with and supportive colleagues within a rewarding environment we can offer a sense of accomplishment, a competitive salary, Teacher’s Pension Scheme, staff fee remission on School fees both at Barrow Hills and our partner school King Edward’s Witley, free car parking, all meals on duty and a Cycle to Work Scheme.

To apply, please refer to the Job Description and complete the Application Form or for further details, visit our website www.barrowhills.org or contact the HR Department on HR@barrowhills.org or telephone 01428 686358.
