Are you a dynamic and dedicated teacher of Modern Foreign Languages who inspires students? Are you able to teach high quality lessons in the target language?
The Role
Fernhill School is seeking to appoint an innovative, dynamic and highly motivated teacher to take on the leadership of the Modern Foreign Languages department. You will be leading a small but talented, hardworking and supportive teacher, who together with the current HOD has dramatically improved both uptake and outcomes for students studying MFL. Teachers that are passionate about their subject motivate students therefore you will need to show a passion for languages and an interest in engaging all students in developing a love of your subject. The successful candidate will be an excellent linguist and classroom practitioner with a keen interest in developing their leadership skills and innovative pedagogical practices.
The Candidate
We are seeking a candidate who will be ambitious for our students who is keen to continue the excellent work achieved by the current HOD. We hope that the new HOD will bring new ideas and skills to the team. A passion for influencing curriculum design and innovative practice, and for identifying and developing student potential is key. A keen desire to make a difference and a belief that a good school can and does make a significant difference to students' life chances and achievement, including the wider skills needed in life.
You will:
- have a passion for languages which is evident in your teaching
- demonstrate the ability to consistently deliver inspirational learning experiences for students
- have an understanding of how to promote effective and inclusive teaching and learning
- be able to evidence success in raising student achievement across a broad range of abilities through successful assessment, monitoring and evaluation of student progress, and the range of strategies that could be used to address underachievement
- possess good communication skills with students, colleagues and parents
- demonstrate a strong desire to undertake Continuing Professional Development to inform teaching
The MFL Department
The MFL department is made up of two members of staff, the Head of Department and a specialist Spanish teacher. We also have both French and Spanish speaking Learning Support Assistants. In addition, we are well respected for our teacher training and regularly have a trainee teacher of MFL as well as an Assistante to support the speaking and listening elements of languages. The department has been well led and the curriculum is interesting and engaging for our students. We have worked hard to develop languages and now 50% of students take a language at GCSE. In addition there is the potential to develop accreditation in languages as part of the EAL Gold Award provision at Fernhill.
The department is housed in two dedicated classrooms rooms, equipped with audio devices and interactive screens.
