We’re looking to recruit a Head of Secondary Visual Arts to join our NACIS Shanghai school, a Nord Anglia Education school.
THE SCHOOL
Founded in September 2016, NACIS Shanghai offers students a creative, challenging and rewarding learning experience. Students aged 6 to 18 years old are welcomed into our progressive and internationally minded school community. We offer a distinctive bilingual, blended learning programme leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Located in the Minhang District of Shanghai, the school has world class facilities that complement our innovative approach.
Our staff are from 10 different countries with significant numbers of colleagues from China, the UK, Ireland and North America.
THE ROLE
To report to the Deputy Head of Secondary, to offer leadership, inspiration and guidance to the secondary school Visual Arts department, the post holder must work effectively as a key member of the Secondary Leadership Team in ensuring students’ academic progress. To contribute significantly to school improvement/ development and planning, and to promote the learning priorities of the school development plan whilst promoting the wider aspirations and values of the school. Including the development of a high-performance culture for students and staff. This is a core Nord Anglia Education expectation.
We’ll look to you to promote high expectations for our students, designing learning activities that are aligned to our school’s Secondary curriculum and creating a learning culture where there are no limits to what can be achieved. You will foster an environment of respect within the classroom, facilitating learning through questioning and discussion.
ABOUT YOU
You will be able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment, you will possess a university degree, a recognised teaching qualification, and teaching experience. Committed and creative, you will be reflective on your own teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative methods to raise the school’s level of achievement.
Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with parents and students. You will also be able to meet visa-related restrictions for China, including at least 2 years of related subject teaching experiences, a bachelor degree notarized.

OUR GLOBAL ACADEMIC RESULTS
The 2021-2022 school year was one of the strongest ever in terms of Nord Anglia Education’s academic results. For the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, our students achieved a 35.1 global point average, far exceeding the global average of 31.9. A third of students eared a perfect score of 45. In the A-levels, our students achieved 60.5% of grades at A*-A, along with 77.3% at A*-B.The group’s latest IGCSE student cohort, consisting of 2,351 students across 41 Nord Anglia schools, achieving an outstanding set of results, with 52.8% of grades at 9 – 7 for the year and 90.8% at 9 – 4.

About NACIS Shanghai
NACIS Shanghai in Minhang, Shanghai, China, is a co-educational establishment catering for students aged 6-18 years. It follows the Shanghai National Curriculum, blended with other international teaching methods and philosophy, taught in Mandarin Chinese and English.
The school, which opened in 2016, is both a day and boarding school with the latter facility offering the capacity to host 180 students of varying ages.
Students attending NACIS will experience a multilingual environment where teaching of topics will be in both English and Chinese according to the content of their learning sessions. The school aims to expand its students’ horizons with a global perspective, choosing topics that will enable them to learn about the world around them, ensuring they benefit fully from their international experience.
Students transitioning from NACIS’s preparatory stage of learning into Grade 9 and 10, can take examinations in Mathematics, Science (biology, chemistry and physics), English language, Chinese and Humanities (geography, history, Global Perspectives or Business Studies). Optional subjects include modern foreign languages (Spanish and French), music, art and computer science.
Senior students from grade 10-12 benefit from independent study facilities to help stimulate both individual study and group work.
