Job overview

Dear Applicant, Thank you for expressing an interest in applying for the post of Headteacher at Rhyl High School. The enclosed documentation has been compiled in order to inform you of the nature and ethos of our school and the requirements expected of a prospective headteacher. Our current headteacher has taken a school that 15 years ago was in special measures and financial difficulty, to now be one of the most sought after schools in the county. She has led us through some very challenging years to become the school we are today. Our school is now in the strongest financial situation it has been in a long time, under her leadership, showing in year surplus. The out-going head has lead with innovative ideas and teaching methods that are inclusive for all. Our wellbeing and ALN provision are second to none. We are a pupil focused school, every decision we make must be right for our children. Our Governing body is looking for a headteacher who will continue this journey and keep our school at the forefront of the sector. Many schools have adopted our systems and policies on as best practice and we want that to continue. The school improvements during the present headteacher’s tenure have been achieved through excellent leadership at all levels with staff working diligently to ensure all pupils fulfil their potential. Staff professional development and coaching has been part of this ethos of improvement. The success of the school is reflected in the fact that we are the only over subscribed school in the county and have been for many years. We make no secret of the fact that we are in one of the most deprived towns in Wales. We have over 40% of our pupils that are eligible for Free School Meals, but through excellent leadership we have and will continue to help mould excellent young people who are not afraid to recover and grow together, to be their academic best and their resilient best, socially, emotionally and behaviourally. The governing body is looking for a headteacher who is ready for their next challenge, who is ready to work with all stakeholders including: pupils, staff, parents, the community and of course the governing body. Someone who can lead with innovation and bring everybody along with them on our continuing successful journey. Most of all, in Rhyl High School children come first. They are at the forefront of everything we do and every decision we make. We are a school proud of its achievements, but also defensive of our children's and community needs; we are their advocate, we are their voice. We need a head who is brave, kind, supportive and ambitious. A head that never settles for OK and always strives for excellence and in return they will gain a school and a community that will give them everything.
