Position Aims:

1.  Leads the University and Careers Counseling programme;

2.  Manages the University and Careers Counseling personnel;

3.  Educates students, parents, faculty and all other relevant stakeholders in the areas of career planning, the university admissions processes, and standardized external testing;

4.  Advises and supports a group of senior students and their families as they go through the university application process.

 

Compliance Responsibilities:

Keep abreast of the latest national laws and regulations, industry norms, certification (such as CIS/WASC) standards related to the business within your responsibilities, maintain a high level of professional ethics and requirements, and ensure that management decisions, policy making and work practices fully comply with the above regulations, standards and requirements; Revise relevant internal policies, procedures and the release of information in time when relevant regulations and requirements are changed or updated, and remind promptly relevant personnel and departments within the school to ensure that the school operation is always in compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

•      Manages the other members of the Director of University and Careers Counseling Department, including allocation of tasks and responsibilities, routine supervision, providing support for relevant professional development, and completing performance appraisals;

•      Promotes awareness and understanding of YK Pao School among the global university admissions community;

•      Leads the programme to counsel students effectively in the areas of career and university choices and related application processes;

•      Ensures that students receive appropriate and consistent advice from all members of the counseling department about appropriate university choices and effective applications processes;

•      Coordinates representational visits to universities in China and internationally by counseling team members;

•      Collaborates with colleagues in the Academic Affairs Office to advise students in the selection of academic courses;

•      Leads the implementation of a parent education programme to help parents understand applications processes, the role of parents, and the concept of “appropriate fit”; provides guidance for final application choices;

•      Determines resources needs for the university and careers counseling programme, and submits a related annual budget proposal to the Principal;

•      Manages the annual departmental budget;

•      Meets with students, individually and in groups, to talk about process and individual college choices;

•      Supports the participation of students in standardized external test;

•      Facilitates visits by, and meetings with, university admissions representatives;

•      Liaises with university admissions offices throughout the year;

•      Oversees the creation of the annual School Profile document;

•      Writes official school recommendation letters for students and prepares relevant necessary mid-year and end-of-year reports;

•      Maintains and shares information about colleges and universities, including, tuition, scholarships, and financial aid.

•      Stays aware of issues and trends in university admission, tertiary education, standardized testing;

•      Maintains membership in, and/or connections with, relevant professional organizations such as the College Board, the National Association of College Admission Counselors, the New England Association of College Admission Counselors, and International Association for College Admission Counseling;

•      Provides relevant reports to the Principal, Board of Governors and other stakeholders, as required;

•      Maintains and disseminates information about standardized tests, and arranges for extended time on these tests, as warranted;

•      Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

 

Job Requirements:

1. Master’s degree or higher in subject field;

2. Experience in the field of university counseling and/or admissions (preferably in an international setting);

3. Understanding of international college admission’s processes (with emphasis on American and British systems);

4. Experience with the IB Diploma Programme;

5. Experience with web-based application assistance programmes, e-Doc sending platforms and results databases used by the department.

 

Certificates:

A university degree and relevant professional counseling qualifications and/or certifications in home country.

 

Others:

1. Bi-lingual ability (English and Mandarin Chinese) would be an advantage;

2. Educators who show a devotion to their subject matter but also have a genuine interest in working with young men and women;

3. Educators with excellent communication skills, who show initiative and who can easily adapt to change.
