Job overview
Barlby is a successful, happy community school where all of the children and adults aim to succeed. Our pupils are guided and supported to achieve the best of their potential by a talented and committed staff team. We are proud of our inclusive ethos and everyone here at Barlby knows how to have fun in their learning.
The Orchard is an Additional Resource Provision (ARP) for autistic pupils who benefit from smaller classes in a more specialist setting. There are two classes within the provision catering for pupils flourishing at differing levels of development. All pupils access individualised core curriculum tasks in the morning and wider curriculum group activities in the afternoons. Each pupil is linked to a mainstream class and is included in school life from day one.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, autism teacher with a passion for inclusion. Successful candidates will have a positive ethos and will promote shared experiences and opportunities for pupils from The Orchard. They will use initiative and creativity to plan and deliver a bespoke curriculum, based on an in-depth understanding of individual strengths and interests, as well as acknowledging their challenges with social communication and emotional regulation.
In return, we will offer you a warm and welcoming school environment, with happy, friendly children and supportive staff, parents and governors. Everyone at Barlby is grateful to work and learn together within a brand new building with fantastic facilities in the centre of our vibrant community.
Please note, this position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Disclosure will be undertaken before an appointment is confirmed.
About Barlby Primary School
All members of the school community have worked together to improve the quality of provision to the current levels and are proud of the achievements that we have made. We are particularly proud of the progress and achievements that our children make as they move through the school. Our children have most recently achieved results that place Barlby in the top 5% for value added for schools across the country.
Characteristics of the Local Area
Barlby Primary School is in The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. 53% of primary age children resident in the borough are educated privately.
The two main catchment areas for our school are the St Charles Ward and Golborne Ward. Both wards are ranked in the top 10% of most deprived wards nationally and are part of the national initiative Neighbourhood Renewal Project. The school’s population is heavily weighted to low income families. The parents’ attitude to education, ability to support their child and commitment to working together with the school to ensure their child achieves, are lower than generally experienced elsewhere.
Characteristics of Children Attending Barlby Primary School
Of the children presently on roll:
• 56% are entitled to free school meals

• 19% are registered on the SEN register
• 29% of learners leave outside normal school hours on at least one day a week
• 13% of learners started or left Barlby outside normal entry times (pupil mobility).
