Job overview

MPS/UPS (A Teaching and Learning responsibility may be available for the right candidate).

To start from 1st September 2024 we are looking for an exceptional Lead Teacher of Business and Economics who will inspire and motivate students in this high achieving state-funded day and boarding school for boys in the lower school and large mixed sixth Form. A Teaching and Learning responsibility may be available for the right candidate.

We are looking for candidates with energy and enthusiasm, high expectations and standards, and who work well in a team. In addition, candidates will create a buzz and excitement both within and beyond the confines of the classroom. The successful candidate will have to demonstrate an ability to deliver exemplary classroom practice and outstanding academic results.

Business and Economics are subjects predominantly taught at KS5 and therefore sit within the Sixth Form Faculty alongside Law, Psychology and the EPQ and are line managed by the Head of Sixth Form. It is a vibrant faculty with a strong track record. All Economics teaching is currently at KS5 and the majority of the Business teaching will be at KS5. We currently have two groups in both subjects in Year 12 and Year 13 and we are delivering the AQA syllabus in both subjects. Over recent academic performance has been strong, particularly in Economics, and both subjects are popular options choices for our Sixth Form students. In addition we recently introduced the NCFE L1/2 Technical Award in Business and Enterprise in Year 10, so experience in delivering a similar course and/or teaching experience at KS4 would be advantageous.

The School has a vibrant extra-curricular life, which includes sport, music, drama, outdoor activities, debating and public speaking. A willingness to contribute will be a clear advantage.

Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced Disclosure Barring Service Certificate is required for this post prior to commencement.

About Beechen Cliff School

Beechen Cliff is a high achieving state day and boarding school for boys in Years 7-11 with a large, vibrant, academic mixed Sixth Form.

Our vision is to enable our pupils and students to achieve their aspirations and become well-rounded, confident and compassionate individuals who go on to live fulfilled lives and make a positive contribution to society.

We are committed to providing an exceptional, all-round education both in terms of high academic standards and an incredible range of extra-curricular opportunities.

We have high expectations of our pupils in terms of their learning, conduct and appearance and encourage all to take advantage of the opportunities available to them at school.

Our pastoral care is based around both a Year Group system and a House system. Pupils are placed in year based tutor groups within one of four Houses, which enables pupils to feel part of and contribute to their House community. We work incredibly hard to ensure our pupils are known, understood and feel both valued and supported in school.

Our pupils benefit from high quality teaching and pastoral care through working with a committed,  experienced and caring  team of staff, which leads to examination results above the national average and successful progression to the next stage of education.

We aim to develop character and an understanding of values with much of our work based around our Core Values of aspiration, compassion, independence and respect.

We are part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership Trust and, within this, a member of the Bath Hub. Within the Bath Hub we work closely with Hayesfield Girls School and St Marks School with a common vision to ensure that pupils across the city achieve their personal best.
