East Wickham Primary Academy is a three form entry school with a warm caring atmosphere. The school has been an Academy since 2013 and is part of The Kemnal Academy Trust. Our last Ofsted rating in April 2016 was Good.
We are looking for a Learning Mentor to work principally in KS1, but the ability to work across both key stages is desirable, supporting our pupils and teachers. You will be an enthusiastic individual, keen to enhance our children’s education, who will help our learners stay focused and on task. You will take small groups as directed and provide support to teachers in the class. You will also be expected to act as a cover supervisor on an occasional basis.
You will need to be flexible in your approach to the different needs of our pupils, have a sense of humour and a calm manner.
Ideally the successful candidate will have experience in “draw and talk”, sand tray or Lego therapy or other intervention programmes. You will be expected to be proactive in engaging with our hard to reach families and encouraging their participation in programmes to support their children. Training or experience in bereavement counselling would also be an asset.
A good personal standard of mathematics and literacy is expected. This post is considered to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The school therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the person specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Offers of employment are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS and other employment checks.
The school is committed to equality and diversity in employment practice and service delivery.
