The Halley Academy is seeking to appoint a Midday Supervisor to join us as soon as possible. You will be working as part of a team, assisting the Academy Leadership Team in ensuring the safety and welfare of pupils during the midday lunch break. This will involve effective supervision of students in and about the Academy site in accordance with the high expectations that we have of all students. Midday Supervisors act as role models for our students, as friendly and familiar faces in our staffing body.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Supervise students and manage their behaviour in the restaurant and the playground at break and lunchtimes, including orderly queuing when necessary.
  • Take responsibility for students' welfare, safety and supervision during the lunch break.
  • Act as a role model and encourage good behaviour amongst students.
  • Deal with any spillages in the dining hall in accordance with infection control procedures.
  • Ensure students are directed to the appointed First Aider when needed.
  • Ensure, in accordance with instructions given, that all students return to class at the end of the lunch period.

Please read the attached job description for more information on this role.

We pride ourselves on having a diverse and dynamic staffing body of committed, creative and hardworking support staff who enjoy coming to work as they benefit from:

  • A committed, supportive and successful team.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with, and learn from, colleagues across the Leigh Academies Trust.

Previous experience of a role in an educational setting is desirable. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

We’d like to hear from you if you are keen to:

  • Support students to behave calmly, sensibly and safely during lunchtime, in accordance with our Academy values.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the Academy.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other staff professionally.

The working hours will be 12.15pm – 2.15pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 11.30am - 1.30pm on Wednesday, during term time only. Our ideal candidate, due to the nature of the role, will live locally to the school and have a flexible approach to working. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis so early applications are encouraged.

This is a permanent position working 10 hours per week, term time only and offering an actual salary of £6,305 per annum (£25,983 full time equivalent)

This is an exciting time for colleagues to be joining our Academy community. Our first cohort of Halley Academy students achieved the best ever GCSE results in the school’s history in August 2023. We’re immensely proud to now be one of the top performing mixed comprehensive schools in Greenwich, and we were celebrated in Schools Week magazine as the third most improved school in the country for the progress of disadvantaged pupils, compared with pre-pandemic performance. Our Year 13 cohorts have a consistent track record of outperforming international averages in the IBCP programme, and we are becoming oversubscribed in many Key Stage 3 year groups.

We are proud to be a local school of choice for the community we serve. Our school equips students with the knowledge, skills and experiences they need so they can lead fulfilling and successful adult lives. If you feel that you want to be a part of our exciting and unique learning community, then we look forward to hearing from you.

The Halley Academy has a long and illustrious heritage being the first purpose-built comprehensive in the UK in the 1950s. We became part of Leigh Academies Trust in March 2018, a highly successful multi-academy trust offering a wealth of opportunities to all of its staff and students to collaborate, develop and grow.

The Halley is a dynamic academy and our curriculum delivers an education of excellence for all. The Halley Academy has been an International Baccalaureate World School since 2019 and students enjoy both the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme at Key Stage 3 and the International Baccalaureate Career- related Programme at Key Stage 5. Our STEM provision develops critical thinking skills, creativity and innovation across the curriculum and we are in a privileged position to be registered to deliver the T Level programme at Key Stage 5 from 2023 in a brand new Engineering and Design Centre. As part of our Digital Strategy, each student has their own Chromebook which is used as a tool for learning and to prepare them to participate in the ever-evolving technological world.

We are a diverse community where everyone is valued, respected and trusted and where we all work together to achieve and celebrate success. Our students are at the centre of the academy community and thrive within a culture of high aspiration, with no cap on ambition, so that they gain the knowledge, qualification and skills to afford successful, fulfilling and happy adult lives.

Staff are reflective and committed practitioners who believe in collaboration and self-improvement. We have weekly ring-fenced time on Wednesday afternoons for our comprehensive CPD programme, tailored to the aspirations and interests of the individual, and have extensive expertise both within the Academy and across the Trust to support in its delivery.

The wellbeing of our students and staff lies at the heart of our work: we know that when our school community is happy and fulfilled, they achieve their best. Our dedicated staff are the most important factor in transforming lives and delivering the best outcomes for every student. The academy has a space dedicated to staff wellbeing and relaxation and offers a range of exercise and participation opportunities for our staff team.
