Job overview

Situated in surrey, Salesian School is 5 minutes walk from Chertsey Station and only 25 minutes from Clapham Junction Station. It is located 5 minutes drive from M25 and M3 and offers free parking.

We are looking for a full or part time Maths teacher, with flexible hours. The position would suit a teacher who is a parent and would like to work around school drop and pick up times.

Salesian School is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to teach Mathematics. We welcome applications from trainee teachers and experienced colleagues alike, including those looking for positions with additional responsibility.

If you are energetic, enthusiastic and love teaching children then we’d be delighted to hear from you. We are a strong team who pride ourselves on working hard to ensure that every student reaches their full potential and enjoys Maths. Last year our students achieved 94% grade9-4, 85% grade 9-5 and 42% grade 9-7 (including 33 grade9’s) at GCSE and 67% A*-B at A-Level and several went on to study Mathematics at university.  Our team is made up of colleagues with a broad range of experience from trainee teachers through to those who have taught for over 25 years. The positive energy and enthusiastic approach of our staff makes it a great team of people to work with. You will get a real buzz working here with great people who look after each other like a family.

The school plays a lead role in both the Teach South East SCITT and school-to-school support and we therefore have opportunities for colleagues at all stages of their career development from NQTs to those seeking positions of responsibility such as Key Stage Leader or Lead Practitioners; mentoring, training, developing others both internally and externally consulting. Appropriate TLRs are available for positions of responsibility; we are especially interested in employing a Key Stage 4 Leader and a Lead Practitioner.

The Mathematics Department has trained over 30 teachers in the last year and has participated in national research including an exchange with teachers from Shanghai. We have a wealth of experience mentoring and developing teachers, your career would be in safe hands no matter if you were just starting teaching or equally are more experience and looking to take the next step up.

With the Sixth Form constantly growing at Salesian, there are plenty of opportunities for those who are interested in teaching at Key Stage 5. We have a strong cohort of A-Level Mathematicians and are likely to have almost 200 students studying Mathematics in the Sixth Form next year.  Would you like to develop your skills further and be part of a forward-thinking department?

Salesian School is characterised by the philosophy of the Salesian founder St John Bosco (1815-1888). He stressed high educational standards and sound moral and religious education. He insisted too on a friendly atmosphere in his schools where the idea of community could be fostered. We strive to ensure that every student experiences personally, a happy atmosphere that will help them to leave the school with a high level of confidence in their own abilities as well as excellent examination results. These goals are delivered through a strong pastoral system, excellent learning and teaching and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical and social extra-curricular activities.

It is at the foundation of our values to:

  • Develop the whole person - mind, body and spirit
  • Ensure relationships are key
  • Ensure that all decisions are made in the best interests of the children
  • Ensure that everything we do is based on Gospel values

We promise parents and students that we will:

  • Ensure that students get the best results they are capable of achieving
  • Develop the skills and attributes that students will need to be successful in the world of the future
  • Develop the morals and values of our students to help them lead decent Christian lives and go on to promote these values throughout the world

We who work in Salesian Schools state our belief in our young people. We recognise that they come from differing backgrounds but that they are of equal value to God and to us. In the spirit of St John Bosco, we turn our efforts to those who stand in special need because of lack of material or emotional security.

We set out to create in our schools a joyful atmosphere in which the dignity and worth of each pupil and member of staff is recognised, developed and safeguarded. Our schools are noted for an atmosphere of welcome where all feel at home and a sense of safety and security. Staff are willing to be present with the pupils in friendship and to go that one step further, where this is necessary, to meet the needs of young people.

We strive to affirm, develop and challenge the abilities of each. We are concerned with the way in which each person matures within the context of the community. While recognising that national standards have a part to play, in seeking to achieve these, we emphasise the unique path each person will take. Our main criterion is personal worth. We prepare young people to be a positive influence in the places where they live and work with others.

Within our Salesian Schools we foster the spiritual, moral and religious development of our pupils and a lively celebration of prayer. In this, we respect where each one stands and his or her basic freedom to choose. However, we strive to present these important features of school life in a way that speaks to the needs and concerns of our young people.

We recognise that in our present age there are many social and educational tensions that stretch our staff, at times, to breaking point. In our schools, therefore, we undertake to affirm our commitment to and support for each other.

We also recognise that we are part of a network of schools within the Diocese and Local Area. We appreciate and respect the work of colleagues in these schools.
