Job overview

The academy’s sponsor, Ormiston Academies Trust, one of the founding trusts of the academies movement, is seeking the country’s best leaders to join our team. The educational landscape has dramatically changed, but our core mission remains the same: To prepare our young people to be the leaders of tomorrow. In order to achieve this, we need to recruit more of the best leaders of today.

We are recruiting for exceptional talent for Ormiston Six Villages Academy, an 11-16 mixed comprehensive school in Westergate, West Sussex with over 600 students on roll.

Six Villages has been part of Ormiston Academies Trust since 2013. The academy has been on a transformative journey in the last two years, and this was recognised in September 2017 with Ofsted granting us a rating of “Good” in all categories, noting that we are “a rapidly improving school”.

We provide an inspirational education where every young person is ready for life in our global community. Our students have an appetite for success and our staff are committed to unleashing their potential. Parents are supportive and loyal to the academy. The strong alignment amongst stakeholders makes this Academy a great place to work and take your career on to the next level.

We know that academic achievement of the highest order is within our reach and we now look to consolidate this progress and continue to push for further sustained improvement, as we strive to become a truly outstanding academy. With this in mind we are looking for exceptional professionals to join our staff body who demonstrate the ability to achieve outstanding student outcomes, and make a difference to the lives of young people at Six Villages.

You:

  • Have incredibly high expectations for yourself and others
  • Accept that only the best is good enough
  • Believe that all children can achieve
  • Are excited by being part of a dynamic team

We offer a very competitive pay and package including:

  • Private healthcare for self and family
  • Annual Performance related bonus of up to 10% of base salary
  • Unparalleled CPD opportunities, both at individual academy and across the OAT family
  • Executive support for those new to headship
  • Exposure to leading edge SI practices and professionals and the chance to make a  bigger difference with a fantastic family of principals and staff.

You will have access to excellent professional networks and support and OAT will actively encourage and support your professional development by providing opportunities to work across the Trust. If you are an experienced senior leader in a secondary setting, with a successful track record of sustained improvement and a determination to maximise the opportunities available then this role offers an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment.

Applicants must be highly motivated, driven and committed to high quality teaching and learning. They should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are maintained. You must be confident and positive with a ‘can-do’ attitude that can inspire and engage pupils, staff and the local community. You must display compassion and be familiar with holding staff accountable whilst being accountable yourself. Above all, you will share our passion and belief that children, their learning and developing their potential is at the heart of all decisions. Ormiston Six Villages is a wonderful school and suitable for both experienced heads and those new to headship.

Values and vision

Six Villages is a rapidly improving academy which provides students with a safe, positive environment to explore, learn, investigate and develop into confident young adults who are ready to enter an ever changing and competitive world. We will aim to stretch, to stimulate and grow a love of life-long learning.

Every student at Six Villages will receive the very best educational experience; learning should be enjoyable, interesting and relevant to our modern technological age. Every student has the opportunity to excel, both in academic and personal development. Teaching is more than a classroom education; it is about developing responsible, valuable adults and a privilege to bestow. Staff work collaboratively to plan exciting, stretching and engaging lessons.

The size of the academy allows us to know each individual student and their family, and to build close working relationships. I encourage parents and carers to actively participate in academy life by joining the Parents’ Forum and Friends of Six Villages parent group which will positively impact opportunities for students inside and outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to become active citizens who contribute to life at the academy.

I expect our students to take great pride in Six Villages, and share our high expectations of uniform, conduct and engagement with their education. We value each individual; it is essential that each person within the academy is tolerant, accepting and respectful.

We recognise excellence for all because there is excellence in all.

Ofsted report
