Job overview

Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of Special Educational Needs (Complex Autism) on a full-time permanent basis from September 2021. Both experienced and newly qualified teachers are encouraged to apply.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful Special School that opened in September 2018 and meets the needs of pupils aged 5 to 19 on the autistic spectrum. They opened their doors to 42 pupils in 2018 and have grown to 94 pupils currently and set to grow to 108 pupils next September. They are in a brand new refurbished school which has been designed around the pupils and offers specialist facilities to support their curriculum.

The school  wish to appoint a class teacher with an outstanding track record who is ambitious and ready for an exciting new challenge. The role has scope to develop a subject specialism in the arts, teaching across the school too. They are looking for a teacher to initially join the secondary department, working with youngsters with complex needs arising from their autism. Typically, youngsters are working at pre-key stage standards 1-6 so creativity and adaptability is key. Communication and supporting pupils with emotional regulations is key to successful learning and their curriculum is built around developing these. Special school experience is not essential but some experience and understanding of working with pupils with complex autism would be helpful.

The Successful Candidate:

● Have previous experience of working within an Inclusive team;

● Teach a primary style curriculum as adopted within special schools;

● Have previous experience of teaching in an Autism-specific environment;

● Work closely within the school team;

● Have a passion for Autism Education and the Inclusion Agenda;
