Senior IT Manager
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
- To lead the delivery of IT Services within The Abbey School so the wider community is effectively supported in the delivery of their educational ambitions.
- To support the IT Strategic Group in their implementation of the School’s educationally led IT Vision and IT Strategic Plan for teaching and learning.
- To lead the management of all IT resources and contracts, ensuring optimisation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Technical
· Strategic Architect of network infrastructure, servers, storage and IT Security
· Knowledge and experience of working in a Google environment
· Significant mastery of one or more of the following areas:- systems engineering, systems development, database environment, cloud computing
· Proven ability to design highly technical projects affecting 500 + users
· Proven ability to design and build high performing systems with an appreciation of redundancy and disaster recovery
Management
· Proven success in recruiting, managing and developing IT teams in a competitive job market
· Ability to turn stakeholders requirements into highly tailored solutions
· Experience and consultative manner to win confidence from colleagues and encourage their use of IT
Commercial
· Proven decision maker on when to outsources and when to proceed in-house
· Project delivery record – on time, on budget
· Business acumen – track record of cost saving through technical creativity and innovation
· Ability to negotiate to negotiate key contracts and licensing agreements ( eg LAN,WIFI, internet)
General
· A degree in IT or Microsoft MSCE/Cisco qualifications/ Chartered IT Professional or equivalent experience
· Analytical and problem solving skills
· Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
· Confidence to deal with all levels of staff, including governors and students
· Experience of working in the education sector desirable.

About The Abbey School Reading
The Abbey School is a dynamic and vibrant community of more than 1,000 girls aged 3-18.
The Abbey is always in the top division nationally in academic terms. This year's A-levels were excellent with 75% at A*- B and at GCSE 88% gained 9-7 grades. Annually the average International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma result is between 38 - 40 points, with more than two thirds of the cohort scoring 38 points or higher, at a level equivalent to or exceeding the Oxford and Cambridge conditional offer range. In the School's 12 year IB history several students have gained the full 45 points possible. Leavers go on to an impressive list of universities and courses.
