Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) Bohunt Horsham

Bohunt HorshamWest Sussex

Bohunt Horsham, part of Bohunt Education Trust (BET), is looking to appoint a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative individual with an excellent record of accomplishment in departmental development and leadership to help shape and ensure the success of our purpose-built, all-through, coeducational school in Horsham. The successful candidate will either already have the National SENDCo Accreditation Award or be willing to undergo the necessary training. The school opened in temporary accommodation in September 2019 with 120 students in Year 7 and we now have 240 students in Years 7 and 8.  The school will grow to a roll of 1620 students, aged 4-16. We intend Bohunt Horsham to be a true all-through school with opportunities for cross phase teaching and the sharing of pedagogical practice and research across primary and secondary provision, offering our students opportunities for leadership and mentoring.

Our SENDCo will have overall responsibility for provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities; they will run a growing team of committed learning support assistants and lead the direction and quality of teaching and learning in this key area. Teachers of any subject area, from either secondary or primary background are invited to apply. We are a new and growing school and this is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding teacher who aspires to whole school leadership in a role that will eventually lead provision for students from ages 4-16. Potential is as important as experience. This role will be supported by the senior leadership team and will benefit from experienced cross trust leadership.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate success in sustaining academic excellence, helping every child achieve exceptional progress and wellbeing and using data to inform actions. Achievement within BET is not just about innovative teaching and learning and academic success but also about providing our students with a breadth and depth of experience, as such we are looking for a team member who is passionate about providing young people with opportunities to develop and thrive.

At BET, we nurture and support your professional ambitions by providing opportunities for training, development and progression, whatever stage you have reached in your career. BET’s approach to teaching and learning is innovative and immersive – a rich blend of the latest education thinking, technology and practice both in and outside the classroom. We set the highest expectations for ourselves and our students, and this is reflected in our results and Ofsted progress. Across all our schools, we have introduced a range of game-changing teaching methods, including language immersion in Mandarin, cross-cultural projects with Sweden, China and Germany, and an integrated science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) curriculum developed in partnership with business and industry.

Potential candidates may make informal enquiries to Ms Georgette Ayling, Headteacher by email:  headteacherspa@bohunthorsham.com. The start date for this role is flexible and we are looking for an individual to join us between April and September 2021.

Candidates are also welcome to view our Open Evening resources on www.bohunthorsham.com and to virtually attend our Recruitment Open Morning (please see the flyer attached to this advertisement) to gain a sense of our educational ethos and culture.

Bohunt Horsham is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young students and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
