ROLE SUMMARY:

Ivy House School thrives as a distinguished, co-educational, and non-denominational school, for boys and girls aged 2-11, nestled within the green spaces of Golders Hill Park in Hampstead. The school prides itself on creating a nurturing environment where each pupil’s individuality is encouraged while fostering a love for learning. 

 

We are looking to recruit an experienced part time Teacher of Sport to teach all children of mixed ability in all years to become enthusiastic and reach their potential in physical education. To work 3 days a week 0.6 FTE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.   Teach Physical Education, Sport and Gym lessons within the school curriculum guidelines and promote, coordinate and participate in sports activities throughout the school year.

2.   Plan and prepare lessons in advance and ensure that learning is kept within curriculum targets.

3.   Record and report on the development, progress and attainment of children including initiating meetings with parents to discuss attainment and progress.

4.   Be aware of and follow the school’s policies especially those relating to child protection, behaviour and health and safety.

5.   Ensuring effective teaching and learning takes place across a curriculum which includes gymnastics, netball, football, rugby, rounders, cricket, tennis and swimming.

6.   Arrange and administer a calendar of regular fixtures which provide opportunities for all pupils to participate at their ability level both within the school and with other schools. 

7.   Maintain resources to the required safety standards and renew, as necessary within the budgetary allowance.

8.   Carry out lunch and playground duties as timetabled or when necessary.

9.   Attend school meetings and In Service Training as and when required.

10.   Operate safely within the workplace and maintain a high standard of practice.

11.   Behave professionally at all times and maintain confidentiality of information.

12.   Be the initial point of contact for parents in matters related to Physical Education, Gym and Sports.

13.   Promote the department in whole school activities such as open mornings and assemblies.

14.   Participate in the organisation and running of extra-curricular sports clubs.

15.   Co-ordinate the organisation of all annual school sports events, including sports day, cross country etc.

16.   Perform such other duties that the Head Teacher may reasonably and from time to time require.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • PE Degree plus/including Teaching Degree /PGCE or recognised equivalent.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to inspire children with an enthusiasm for learning.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good administrative abilities. Good team player.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of best practice for teaching and learning.
  • Up to date knowledge of current learning strategies.
  • Professional understanding of the educational needs of children.
  • Enthusiasm for sports.
  • Recognition of the diversity in cultures and nationalities within the school.
  • Willingness to be involved in extra-curricular activities.
