Job overview

Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School is seeking to appoint a dynamic, innovative and inspirational part-time teacher of Art, 0.70 FTE, to join our highly successful school from 16th September 2024 to cover maternity leave.

Our art department strives for excellence and innovation and is a popular subject at both GCSE and A Level. We wholeheartedly recognise the impact of the arts on student development and emotional well-being and set out to challenge and support our students in equal measure. Our art curriculum is diverse, exploring media and techniques in two and three dimensions and we encourage our students to be ambitious and daring as they develop and create their work. There are additional enrichment opportunities on offer such as Arts Award Silver and in planning and contributing to our annual ArtsFest. Previously we have achieved Artsmark Gold and have now embarked on an exciting new Artsmark journey with many ambitious goals. Our aim is to ignite a genuine sense of engagement, which enables an environment positively charged with creative possibilities.

The successful applicant must be passionate about their subject, degree educated with a confident knowledge and understanding of fine art practice, materials and techniques. Our focus is on building skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics so a specialist in one or more of these fields would be ideal. However, we would also welcome other innovative practitioners who may be able to offer an additional area of expertise to our department. A good working knowledge of art history and contextual studies, along with the ability to teach KS3 design technology would be desirable.

This would be an excellent opportunity to contribute to and enhance a highly successful department in a brand-new school building with excellent art facilities. We require a committed and able practitioner who has the drive to maintain superb academic results, in addition to developing a thriving extra-curricular programme. This role is suitable for an experienced teacher or an NQT.

Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School is a highly respected school that places students’ academic success on a par with their well-being, creating a learning community where every individual matters. This is reflected in our approach to teaching and learning and as a teacher of Art the successful candidate will be central to continuing to instil this ethos in our students.

Our curriculum: We currently follow EdExcel (Fine Art) for both the GCSE and A Level course, details of which can be found on our website.
