TEACHER OF ENGLISH (with the ability to teach Media Studies)

Possibility of SUBJECT LEADER for Media Studies role for the right candidate* TLR 2A (£3,214)

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding classroom practitioner - someone enthusiastic, innovative and engaging - who will be a committed addition to our already highly successful team. The successful candidate will teach English and Media Studies (as part of the Communications Faculty). The Communications Faculty is made up of a wide range of highly experienced and skilled teachers and teaching assistants. There is a Head of Faculty, an Assistant Head of Faculty and Key Stage leaders, as well as a Head of Languages and a Head of Bilingual Learning. We welcome applications from ECTs as well as from more experienced teachers. Our academy offers a wealth of support for all staff, as well as a range of fantastic opportunities for professional development. Now is an ideal time to join and contribute to the development of this faculty and to be part our expanding academy.

We currently offer GCSE English Language and Literature (AQA) and GCSE Media Studies (EDQUAS), Level 3 Media (Single Award) and A Level English Literature (AQA, Lit B). Successful candidates may also be required to offer some Drama at KS3 and/or 4, which falls under the Arts and Humanities Faculty.

The position as Media Lead has come about due to the growth of the subject at Key Stage 4 and 5. We have an increasing number of students opting for Media at KS4 and a new Level 3 BTEC introduced Post 16. The current Media Lead, having recently been promoted to a different role within the Academy, has relinquished this role but has established a solid foundation on which to build the subject further. Ideally, all candidates should have some experience of teaching Media Studies and/or BTEC to support with teaching, planning and assessment.

*There is an opportunity for the right candidate - with the right experience - to become the subject lead for Media Studies (subject to the qualifications and experience). The subject lead will work closely with other key staff to shape the development of Media within the Communications Faculty. Candidates must have at least two years of teaching experience in a relevant subject at GCSE and ideally some experience of BTEC to be eligible for this TLR. Please see the separate subject lead specification and job description and ensure you address this in your letter.
