About Herschel Grammar School

Herschel Grammar School is a coeducational and selective foundation grammar school founded in the 1940’s. We are proud of our specialist technology college status and we are recognised nationally as a ‘Leading Edge’ school providing examples of innovative educational practice.

We believe that pupils should be offered as wide a range of academic, sporting and extracurricular experiences as possible. We want our pupils to take responsibility, to make a valuable contribution to the running of the school and to become respected members of our community.

To that end we provide opportunities for pupils to travel and learn about other cultures and societies and to develop skills and abilities that will enable them to face the many challenges that lie ahead.

Why Join the Herschel Team?

“Pupils’ behaviour and attitudes to learning are outstanding and contribute to the calm, purposeful ethos in the school and to their progress in lessons.”

“Pupils thrive in the school’s academic, yet very caring and secure, environment.”

"Pupils’ behaviour and attitude to learning are real strengths. Pupils behave politely and with courtesy in lessons and around the school."

“Arrangements for performance management and appraisal are excellent. Teachers new to the school and to teaching are very well supported. Staff value the process and opportunities for professional development.”

“GCSE results have been consistently well above the national averages over the past five years”
