Walsall Studio School is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, hardworking individual to join our maths team.

Maternity Cover (September 2024)

Join our Mathematics Team

Our mathematics department is an exceptional place for both new and experienced teachers to develop their careers and achieve their goals.

The department is very well resourced with practical, digital and printed resources to allow you to create engaging and dynamic lessons that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

We are keen to appoint somebody who is passionate about mathematics and its place in our world and who will contribute to our underlying philosophy of making mathematics a meaningful tool which students can be confident in using outside the mathematics classroom.

We want students to be able to make decisions about how to solve problems, drawing on existing skills and seeking help to develop new skills as necessary. We want them to be confident in interpreting solutions and make sensible decisions about how to communicate their findings.

You will contribute to the provision of a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study, encouraging students to develop confidence in, and a positive attitude towards mathematics and to recognise the importance of mathematics in their own lives and in wider society, with a willingness to use the skills they learn within their vocational courses.

You will have many opportunities to make mathematics meaningful, drawing on students’ life experiences and their experiences from their vocational courses.

You will be a part of a small team of professionals who work closely together to achieve our goals. We believe in supporting one another, sharing ideas and resources, and working together to create a positive and productive learning environment for our students.

We are committed to delivering high-quality continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities for all of our teachers. We believe that learning is a lifelong process, and we are dedicated to providing our teachers with access to the latest research, best practices, and professional development opportunities. As a member of our team, you will have access to a range of CPD opportunities, both within our school and as part of our Trust-wide offer, giving you the tools you need to continue to develop your skills and knowledge.

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to be part of a culture of excellence, where we are always striving to improve our practice and achieve the best possible outcomes for our students.

About Studio School & Sixth

Established in 2013 and located on the edge of Walsall Town Centre, Studio School and Sixth is a unique school that offers high-quality academic and vocational curriculum to 14–19-year-olds across the Black Country.

Students choose to join our school in year 10 (expanding their opportunity to study a personalised set of KS4 GCSE and vocational options) or in year 12 (choosing to immerse themselves in one of our specialist pathways); creating a community of likeminded young professionals who are keen to express their aptitude, aspiration, and passion for ‘what we do’.

As a working studio, our students benefit from:

·        Hands-on experience: Students gain practical experience by working on authentic projects alongside experienced teachers and industry professionals.

·        Relevant education: Our curriculum is tailored to the creative, health and digital industries, providing students with the skills and knowledge that are relevant and in-demand.

·        Industry connections: Students build relationships with a wide range of industry professionals, adding true value to their learning experience and future job opportunities.

·        Access to equipment and resources: As a studio, students have access to a wide range of equipment and resources to support learning and enhance skills.

·        Career preparation: By working in a real-world environment, students better prepare themselves for careers in their field and understand the expectations and demands of their chosen profession.

By having the opportunity to study with us at the beginning of their year 10 or 12 journey, students develop a competitive advantage for the following reasons:

§ Personalised approach: Although able, not all students want to be limited by traditional EBacc subjects, and would prefer a choice to select a personalised range of option choices

  • Balanced education: By promoting the benefits of strong academic, vocational and personal curriculums, students follow a balanced educational approach that prepares them for a variety of careers.
  •  Career focus: Our specialist approach allows students to develop skills and knowledge in their chosen field and gain a better understanding of their future career options.
  • Early specialisation: By choosing to study at a specialist school at the end of year 9, students can start specialising in their chosen field earlier, which can give them a competitive advantage.

This position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check (formerly CRB) under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Further details regarding this check are available from the school or by visiting www.crb.gov.uk.
