General duties and responsibilities for Teaching Assistants (Scale 2)

  •  To work with students as individuals or within small groups under the guidance and direction of, and organised by, teaching staff.
  •  To liaise with the class teacher in discussing the work set for the students and report on the success or otherwise of the work set.
  • To refer to daily planning completed by class teachers and to complete any part of that planning that requires your contribution
  • To deliver additional support programmes as required.
  • To liaise with the Pastoral Lead and Senior Leadership Team and discuss EHCP outcomes, classroom strategies and support programmes for students with special needs.
  • To assist with the preparation of programmes of work for students, under the guidance of the teaching staff.
  • To undertake general classroom support tasks including the preparation of resources and the setting out and putting away of equipment
  • To undertake the daily registration of students and liaise with the relevant staff over matters of absence
  • To accompany students on visits as required
  • To support the educational and social development of students
  • To contribute to reviews, assessments and observations as required
  • To work with other professionals eg Speech Therapists, Learning Support Advisory staff
  • To support students with SEN and individual targets as required
  • To ensure that child protection concerns are passed on to the DSL
  • To attend and participate in training as required
  • To attend team and staff meetings as required
  • To invigilate exams
  • To engage in a performance management programme to promote professional development
  • To supervise students during lunch times as required
  • To supervise students during break times as required
  • To supervise students coming into and leaving the building
  • To supervise students travel on the school minibus
  • To administer first aid and medication as appropriate
  • To undertake any reasonable tasks commensurate with the title and grade of the post

 Additional responsibilities (Scale 3)

  • All responsibilities stated above
  • To be fully involved in the planning process for teaching and learning, supporting teaching staff as appropriate
  • To be involved in the evaluation of student learning supporting the reporting process and record keeping
  • Contribute to student reports as required
  • To offer specialist SEN or subject support to students

 Cover supervisor responsibilities (Scale 3)

  • To cover groups or classes in the absence of a teacher
  • To deliver work that has been set by the class teacher or in accordance with school policy
  • To supervise students whilst they are undertaking this work ensuring that a positive, well disciplined learning environment is maintained
  • To respond to any questions from students about process and procedures
  • To deal with any immediate problems or emergencies in accordance with school policies and procedures
  • To collect student work at the end of the lesson and return it to the appropriate teacher
  • To report back, as appropriate, using Kickstart’s agreed referral procedures on the behaviour and achievement of pupils during the lesson
