“It is not enough for young people to be loved. They must know that they are loved.”

St John Bosco   Our Roman Catholic, Salesian school, in the heart of Battersea, strives to ensure that all its young people are given the opportunity and support they need to achieve their best, fulfil their true potential and go out into the world confident and ready to ‘earn their own bread.’

A great opportunity has opened up for an enthusiastic TA to start as soon as possible.  We are looking for someone who is patient and caring to work with children with additional needs both in the mainstream and in the Autistic Spectrum Disorder Unit of St John Bosco Catholic Secondary School.

St John Bosco College sets high expectations for its students. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic and friendly teaching team. It is also an opportunity for career development as the school offers a regular training programme including access to NVQ qualification for Teaching Assistants.  As a Teaching Assistant within the school you will work under the direction of the SENCO or the ASD Unit Lead Teacher.

You will be responsible for undertaking work/care/support programmes which enable access to learning for students.  Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area. You will also contribute to the wider running of the school through the completion of regular duties supervising our students. You will have the ability to work as part of a supportive team as well as the ability to relate well to both children and adults.

Previous experience of supporting secondary aged students with SEN needs would be desirable but is not essential. You must have good literacy and numeracy skills. You must be committed and reliable with excellent communication skills along with a calm, patient and empathetic nature.

In the interests of efficiency, economy and the environment, candidates are encouraged to download an application and details from the school website, www.sjbc.wandsworth.sch.uk    Completed application should be returned to the school either by email or post. CVs are not accepted.

Please note that if you complete the application form on an Apple Mac you must use ‘Adobe Acrobat Reader’ (you can get it here:  http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/  ) and not the ‘Preview’ application that comes with the computer due to an incompatibility.

Closing date: Noon 19th February 2018

Interview Date: week commencing 26th February 2018

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

St John Bosco College is located in the heart of Battersea a short distance from Clapham Junction and Battersea Bridge.  We are an 'outstanding' Catholic School (Section 48 inspection June 2019) rated were 'good' by Ofsted in our most recent inspection (October 2022).

At St John Bosco College we believe that there should be no limit on what our pupils can achieve and we expect everyone who joins us to aim high and always do their best. With a broad and balanced curriculum, excellent teaching, a modern purpose-built school and a caring, nurturing ethos; we provide an excellent environment where all of our pupils can reach their full potential.

“Saint John Bosco is a Catholic college, but admits pupils from a wide range of faiths and cultures and these differences are embraced and celebrated” Ofsted

We want our pupils to work hard but also enjoy life in school.  We provide many enrichment activities; sporting, work experience, cultural and charitable; for our pupils to learn and grow beyond the confines of the classroom.  We believe that these opportunities enable our pupils to grow and develop into well-rounded young men and women who will leave here fully equipped for life beyond school.

“Staff know each and every pupil and relationships are consequently highly positive.” Ofsted

Our identity as a Roman Catholic school and our school’s distinctive Salesian ethos is based on St John Bosco’s vision that ‘it is not enough for every child to be loved… they must know that they are loved’. We provide strong pastoral support and a high level of care for every student, regardless of their background.  We are a community where everyone is highly valued as an individual.

“Pupils mix well in this harmonious environment and benefit from personalised support and guidance” Ofsted

Whilst we are justifiably proud of our school and of the achievements of the young people who have already studied here we are equally excited about the future and the potential of the young people joining our school to achieve great things in the years ahead.

“The school’s vision that ‘it is not enough for young people to be loved, they must know that they are loved’ permeates the school’s culture” Ofsted
