Job overview

The Vacancy

This role presents a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious teacher who wants to work in senior management in a thriving school.

The role is primarily about creating the conditions in which staff and students can enjoy the best teaching and learning at Trinity. We are looking for a teacher who is well-established as an excellent practitioner, who has proved their ability to lead in (at least) a middle management role, and who wants whole-school responsibility. As part of the SMT, the post holder will also share responsibility for the strategic development and daily management of the school. The post has become available as the current holder has been appointed as the national Director of Training for the Independent Schools teacher induction panel (IStip).  The starting salary will be in the range £70,000 - £80,000 depending on experience.

We are a diverse community at Trinity (over 40% of our students come from a minority ethnic background) and we want a staff body that reflects this diversity. We have created a welcoming and respectful environment for all members of our community and strongly encourage applications from teaching and support staff from a wide range of backgrounds. We believe it is everyone’s responsibility to uphold these values to ensure a working environment where everyone can contribute and thrive.

To enable us to make any reasonable adjustments, please let us know when you submit your application whether you have any particular requirements.

The School

Trinity is one of three schools governed by the Whitgift Foundation, founded in 1596 by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, John Whitgift.

Trinity’s students enjoy a school ethos which is both compassionate and ambitious; we want to nurture outstanding young people in every sense. Trinity’s academic results regularly place us among the top schools in the country - in 2022 we were ranked 23rd in the Parent Power list of Top 100 Independent Schools in the UK. We also won the 2022 national U18 schools’ rugby cup, and we are recognised as having one of the best music departments of any school in the UK. Ahead of results however, we celebrate intellectual curiosity and foster a culture in which pupils feel inspired to take a genuine interest in people and the world around them.

Exceptional staff are fundamental to our mission and we look forward to welcoming outstanding candidates to join our team.

Trinity School reserves the right to interview and appoint before the published closing date.

Trinity School is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of child, young people and adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All applicants will be required to comply with all safeguarding procedures including an Enhanced DBS check.

Our Values

At Trinity our focus is on leading through values; on the kind of young people that our students become through being at Trinity, with day-to-day school experiences and a love of learning shaping them before they move on to extraordinary futures.

Timescales

Please apply online at www.trinity-school.org/vacancies as soon as possible and no later than midday on 1st February 2023.

Interviews are likely to be held w/c 6th February 2023, with second round interviews w/c 20th February 2023. Trinity School reserves the right to interview and appoint before the published closing date.

Independent HMC day school of 1000 students 10-18, with a co-educational Sixth Form. Shortlisted for Independent Senior School of the Year TES Awards 2019.

Trinity is a dynamic, forward-looking school at the forefront of independent education. It offers a first-class educational experience for boys aged 10-18 and girls aged 16-18. There are currently 1000 pupils attending the school.

There are four main ages of entry into the school: at 10+ (Year 6), 11+, 13+ and 16+. Trinity has a broad ethnically and socially diverse pupil body which reflects the local area. Just over half of the pupils enter from local primary schools and, with the support of the Whitgift Foundation, Trinity is able to offer generous bursary support, with just over 50% of pupils receiving financial assistance.

The school was last inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in 2021. Trinity was awarded Excellent in both Pupils' Achievement and Personal Development and the report found, "Pupils' natural intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn is strongly supported by energetic, imaginative teaching" with an "exceptionally high standard of pastoral care."

Trinity School is part of the Whitgift Foundation, founded in 1596 by John Whitgift, Archbishop of Canterbury. For over 400 years, the Whitgift Foundation has been educating the young and caring for the elderly. It plays a significant role in Croydon life promoting educational excellence, supporting carers and providing a range of services for elderly people.

The Foundation educates over 3,000 students from in and around Croydon through its three independent schools: Trinity, Whitgift (day and boarding for boys aged 10-18) and Old Palace of John Whitgift School (nursery for boys and girls from age 3 months to 4 years and day school for girls aged 4 to 18). The schools and their pupils benefit from the support of one of the largest bursary schemes in the country. Over 46% of students are currently supported by a bursary or scholarship scheme, totalling in excess of £5million per year.
