Job overview

After a successful bid for Priority School Building Project funds, we moved into a brand new, purpose built, ‘all through’ school on the east field of the school site. Within this building there is a specialist SEN centre with a number of intervention spaces across the building.

Following the relocation of the current post holder and the increase in demand for specialist SEND teaching, we are looking to recruit two Assistant SENCos to support our SENCo, Mrs. Erika Anders. The successful applicants will work with children across the school and offer a range of small group and 1 to 1 interventions to children in KS1, 2, 3 and 4. Another part of the role will be to work with class teachers, teaching assistants and learning support assistants to help plan effective strategies for children with SEN. Consequently, a strong understanding, and practice in the delivery, of effective strategies for a range of needs is essential. Finally, we expect both candidates to either hold NASENCo, or be prepared to undertake, this training as a condition of employment as well as ‘access arrangements’ training. We envisage the successful candidates will have a very strong background in either Primary or Secondary Teaching and be prepared to work with children across the school.

School Ethos

Supporting and actively promoting the ethos of the school is the principle role of EVERY member of staff.
ALL members of our community are expected to work hard, be disciplined and show others respect.
Our ethos is summarised in our mission statement “Your only limitation is your ambition”.
In summary, we expect everyone to;

1. Be on time, well presented and properly equipped.
2. Show good manners and consider themselves as role models.
3. Challenge behaviours which fall short of our high expectations.

ALL staff should recognise that teaching goes on both inside and outside of lesson time,
and that throughout their working day staff should actively find opportunities to reinforce the schools ethos with students,
whether they are students you teach or not.

To this end ALL staff are encouraged to;

1. Greet students in corridors frequently, encouraging respectful responses from students.
2. Politely ask students to pick up litter.
3. Comment on “good behaviours” e.g. “You look very smart, well done”
4. Actively take an interest in a student who looks injured or in some other way distressed.
5. Ask students to stand up right when they talk to you and encourage eye contact.

Staff should note that duties are a particularly useful way of reinforcing the school’s ethos. Therefore, staff undertaking a duty are encouraged to actively engage with students, not “guard space”; whilst maintaining high levels of vigilance.
