Job overview

The London Oratory School invites you to apply for the post of Biology Technician. Trad but quirky, The London Oratory is amongst the city’s most prestigious Catholic schools. Educating boys from 7 to 18, with girls in the sixth form, it puts a strong emphasis on music with a liturgical twist, all as part of a broad, liberal arts curriculum – but that’s not all, so do please visit our website for a fuller flavour: https://www.london-oratory.org

Our invitation:

We are recruiting a suitably qualified and dedicated Biology Technician to become an integral part of our Science Department.

Your gifts:

The London Oratory School is seeking a Biology Technician with strong STEM skills to join the Biology Department. The Technician should hold a Biology qualification (e.g. BTEC, HND, degree) or equivalent relevant experience.

The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task, have an impressive talent for problem solving and enthusiasm for supporting the delivery of Biology teaching for 14 – 18 year olds.  We are rebuilding our laboratories at the moment, and the technician will play a key role in setting up our new facilities.

The Biology Technician will be responsible for providing full technical support to the Biology Department and ensuring high standards of Health and Safety are maintained whilst assisting in the day-to-day support of the learning environment. The Technician will work with the Head of Biology to promote excellence in the teaching of science.

Our School:

In addition to first class, tasteful facilities (including on-site parking, a state of the art gym and swimming pool) and a highly competitive salary package, here are five reasons as to why you might consider working with us:

1. Our vision: A compelling vision of what a distinctively Catholic education should look like, open to the world and fitting pupils to move through it with panache and confidence;

2. Our pupils: Well-disciplined, switched on, cosmopolitan - and quirky - supported in their growth by skilled staff and a tightly structured pastoral system;

3. Our staff: An intellectually lively and collegial Common Room culture, that supports you in your growth as a subject and career expert;

4. Our priority: A highly supportive and collegial atmosphere at all levels that values and recognises the great work that all school staff do, and the challenges and sacrifices they make to do it. In addition to daily freshly brewed coffee, we also offer full access to staff medical and counselling services, should these be required;

5. Your future: An innovative staff development programme that looks to support you in growing in your vocation, in a school that thinks through the implications of cutting edge pedagogical research and development, within a rich philosophical and spiritual heritage.

The School enjoys a competitive salary scale to recognise and reward the very committed body of staff that make up its Common Room.

About The London Oratory School

Trad but quirky, The London Oratory School is a mainstream, Roman Catholic, all-through school with sixth form, situated in Fulham, south-west London. Founded in 1863 by the Fathers of the Oratory, we cater for boys aged seven to eighteen and have approximately 1,330 pupils enrolled.  Girls are admitted to the Sixth form.

We encourage all staff to get involved in our vibrant school life. The school is committed to developing staff and growing their skillset through CPD.  We have first class facilities which all staff are encouraged to use (including daily refreshments, on-site parking, a state of the art gym and swimming pool).

The school moved to its present site in 1970. In September 1989, the voluntary-aided school became grant-maintained. A Junior House was added next to the Arts Centre in September 1996.
