We are looking for two innovative and dynamic Communication, Interaction and Autism Base Lead Advisory Teachers. The teachers will have responsibility for advisory support within mainstream Schools to support the needs of pupils with communication, interaction and autism. The Lead Advisory Teacher will have experience of successfully enabling children and young people with communication interaction and autism needs to fulfil their potential. The successful candidate will have the ability to build excellent relationships with school staff, parents and professionals from other agencies, have high expectations of students, and have resilience in managing the significant demands of working with vulnerable students in our schools.


The post holders will be responsible for ensuring that the Communication, Interaction and Autism Base makes maximum use of its resources and approaches to raise standards of achievement, and to improve the quality of teaching and learning to adapt to the needs of pupils with communication and interaction and Autism. The successful candidates will be a source of continuing professional development training, advice, encouragement and innovation to all involved in the work of the school.


The individuals appointed will lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the Communication, Interaction and Autism Base and deploy resources as appropriate, and will be expected to make a full contribution to the management Team of the Communication, Interaction and Autism Service. They will also provide advisory outreach guidance to staff to enable them to support pupils within the mainstream school who are identified as having communication, interaction and/or autism needs.


The Communication, Interaction and Autism Base within High school is a specialist educational provision for students with significant communication, interaction and/or autism needs, some of whom are involved with other agencies, such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Social Services and the Child, Youth and Community Tribunal.


Applicants should understand strategies and systems which promote successful learning and address the needs of the pupils to develop communication skills and emotional regulation strategies. They should have a strong empathy with a desire to meet the needs of these students.

This role offers off Island candidates with an 8-year employment permit allowing them to work on the Island. This permit will also enable candidates to bring immediate family members with them and allows their partners to work on the Island in any sector.
