Job overview

In Debden Park High School “leaders have successfully established a school where high aspirations and excellence are the norm, and where pupils and staff enjoy coming to work…. The buzz, enthusiasm and energy from staff at all levels is palpable” Ofsted January 2017

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and driven teacher to join our Sixth Form Leadership Team to work alongside the Director of Sixth Form to help shape and lead the Key Stage 5 provision at our growing Sixth Form. As Deputy Director of Sixth Form, you will play a vital role in helping to support the academic and pastoral needs of our Sixth Formers, as well as being directly responsible for developing the enrichment and extra-curricular provision that enables our student to develop the full range of skills necessary to be successful in their future lives and careers.

Debden Park High School is a heavily oversubscribed Academy that Ofsted judged to be Outstanding in January 2017. Our Sixth Form opened in September 2015 and moved into its own purpose-built building in September 2016. The Sixth Form currently has over 180 students in it and is growing year on year. Since opening, we have established ourselves as a very successful sixth form provision, and are proud to see our students go onto places with some of the most prestigious employers and institutions in the country, such as to many Russell Group universities, including Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial. As Deputy Director of Sixth Form, you will work closely with the Director of Sixth Form to continue this development.

We are part of a family of schools within the Kemnal Academies Trust. Every week staff take part in 2 hours of Debden Minds which is a bespoke CPD programme focusing primarily on the development of teaching & learning. We provide exceptional career progression for staff, which leads to our Middle and Senior Leadership teams being composed of many teachers who began their career with us. We lead the Essex hub of the TKAT SCITT.

Debden Park High School "Because we believe you can......" Our school's aim is to provide an excellent education in a safe supportive learning environment, one where people are valued and make positive contributions to the school community, and where students go on to become responsible, independent members of society.  Debden Park High School was established in September 1999 on a tiny site in Chigwell, before moving to its current buildings in September 2001.  We are very proud of our school, of our outstanding facilities and impressive surroundings, and it is a real privilege to work here. At the heart of everything we do are our students.  Our curriculum is student-centred and we aim for their education to be inspiring, stimulating and challenging.  Our staff are appointed for their passion, their enthusiasm and their imagination in communicating with children to ensure that every single child in their classes is engaged, excited and challenged by the learning experience at all times.  Our vision is to empower students so that they are able to take control of their own future and have enhanced life chances as a result of learning with us.  We are academically ambitious for our students and with the opening of our sixth form in September 2015 and our fantastic new sixth form building, The Hive, in September 2016, we are excited at now having the opportunity to nurture their love of learning into A Levels and beyond.    We want our students to become independent learners, who are critical in their thinking, informed in their choices and confident in their ability to succeed in the modern world, who are respectful and tolerant, driven and confident and who strive for the best.  In addition to their academic lives we also want our students to benefit from extra curricular experiences in the arts, sport and culture which will help them become well rounded balanced adults. We are also extremely proud of our status as a Teaching School and of the role we play in developing motivated, passionate and outstanding teachers and visionary leaders.  We work in collaboration with King Harold School in Waltham Abbey and this partnership has at its heart a drive for success.  Through learning across both schools, all will be inspired, challenged and prepared to embrace the modern world.

Helen Gascoyne, Head of school          Christian Cavanagh, Executive Headteacher
