Job overview

Sacred Heart Catholic School, Camberwell

The Governing Body of Sacred Catholic School are seeking to appoint a dynamic, forward-thinking practising Catholic teacher to assume a lead role in furthering the success of this thriving school. The postholder must be able to serve as a figurehead of faith who, by personal example and professional leadership will ensure our Catholic identity, rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church, permeates all aspects of the school.

We are a Catholic School with very strong moral values and a traditional approach to behaviour and discipline; our pupils understand their rights and responsibilities, respect rules and boundaries and learn to live in honesty and trust. We believe that discipline, structure and common purpose are solid foundations for success in life and education, and we understand the value of professionalism and innovation in everything that we do.

The school enjoys a long record of academic success and high-quality pastoral care, founded upon the Gospel values that underpin our support of young people to become the best versions of themselves. Sacred Heart consistently achieves outstanding academic results, way above local and national averages in every subject area. Progress 8, a more comprehensive measure of school success, places us firmly as one of the very top performing schools in the country. Our Sixth Form has quickly followed suit and we have already sent many students to top universities, including Oxford, Cambridge and many other Russell Group universities, as well as Ivy League universities in the USA. We fully expect to maintain the same high standards of academic success at A Level as we have achieved at GCSE.

We also have an exceptional record of helping our pupils to achieve more than they think is possible. Sacred Heart has consistently been in the top 2% of the country for adding value to pupils’ education at both Key Stage 3 and 4.

As well as outstanding academic outcomes, Sacred Heart prides itself on educating the whole child. Academic results will only go so far, and we insist on a comprehensive programme of moral education, teaching good manners and respect. We are determined to show our pupils that Gospel values are to be lived by, especially when it comes to looking after and caring for those less fortunate.

Our ideal candidate will be either an existing Deputy Head looking for a more senior role or an experienced member of the senior leadership team with experience in one or more of the following:

·         Leading Teaching & Learning to raise attainment and improve progress

·         Curriculum Development

·        Recruitment

·        Assessment & Reporting

·        Leading and shaping strategic direction

·        Commitment to our vision of Catholic education, placing faith at the heart of school life

Candidates must demonstrate that they can elicit the trust and confidence of staff, parents and carers, Governors and Clergy, and demonstrate the experience and credibility to deputy for the Headteacher in all areas of leadership. The successful candidate will be central to our continued success, playing a key role in furthering the Headteacher’s vision to ensure the children in our care are afforded the very best Catholic education.
