The Westgate School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and proactive Facilities Manager to play a key role in the management and development of the school premises, ensuring they are safe, well maintained and meet the needs of the school. We are a large oversubscribed outstanding secondary school with 1345 students and 149 members of staff.
The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the management of the entire premises, which include a number of sports facilities that are let to the community. The efficient working of all systems in the school is crucial and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of managing their work whilst taking the needs of the school, its staff and students into consideration.
The Facilities Manager will need a focused, direct and proactive approach in ensuring that the school environment is safe, meeting statutory requirements and that all equipment and resources are working so that staff and students are able to focus their attention on their teaching and learning. They will also be responsible for the line management of the site staff.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Head Teacher, the responsibilities will encompass:
· Effective management of outsourced contracts
· Effective liaison with the outsourced cleaning and catering contractors
· Strategic management of the maintenance budget and implementation of an effective programme of capital works when required
· Seeking to maximise energy efficiency and adoption of sustainable waste management
· Ensuring that the operation of the school is in accordance with the latest guidance, policies and legislation in respect of Health and Safety
· Ensuring effective maintenance of the grounds
· Ensuring that the site is safe and secure for all users at all times
· Effective leadership of the site staff including direction of tasks and duty rotas
· Ensuring that the premises and equipment are in good order and allow the school to function effectively
The successful candidate will ideally have relevant experience of working within a similar sized facility, good knowledge and experience of Health & Safety requirements; a qualification in this area would be an advantage, good organisation and budget management skills, the ability to work under pressure, good skills in collaborating and communicating and the ability to be flexible in order to ensure the needs of the school are met.

Hours of work 8.00am - 4.00pm Monday to Thursday 8.00am - 3.30pm Friday (37 hours)
(These hours are flexible by prior arrangement)
Full time 52 weeks per year with 25 days annual leave which rises to 29 after 2 years service.
