The School:

The Sir Robert Woodard Academy, an Ofsted 'good' school and part of the Woodard family of schools, is a thriving 11–18 Academy serving primarily the students of Lancing, Sompting and West Shoreham, though we welcome students from all surrounding areas. The Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Finance and Operations Manager to join our Academy and the busy finance team on a permanent and full time basis.

The successful candidate will be committed to providing excellent financial and operational management to the Academy and Trust. The Finance and Operations Manager will report directly to the Finance Business Partner/Head of Operations as well as to the Trust Finance Director, as part of the Trust wide Finance Team. The successful post-holder will directly manage the Finance Officer, Site Manager, Catering Manager, IT Manager and Office Manager. Previous experience of successfully managing teams is essential. This incredibly broad role requires experience in schools financial management, site and premises development, IT and administration management, health and safety and payroll input. This role would suit School Business Managers, or those who have deputised or supported in a similar role.

Role type:        Permanent and Full time, 52 weeks per year

Work location: Onsite 4 days per week, option to work remotely 1 day per week

Hours:      37 per week, Monday to Friday, flexible between 8am-5.30pm

Salary:     £49,814-£54,269p.a. (dependant on experience)

Annual leave:  26 days per year, plus public holidays

The successful candidate will:

  • be highly skilled, self-motivated and enthusiastic with a positive ‘can do’ approach
  • be a natural leader, able to hold staff to account and drive improvement where necessary
  • be able to work independently, managing multiple tasks at once and reacting appropriately to changing priorities
  • display excellent financial management and operational management skills, proven by previous experience
  • have a good working knowledge of IT systems, including experience with financial/accounting software
  • be able to communicate in a professional and friendly manner with a range of stakeholders.

Named for a Royal Navy Rear-Admiral, The Sir Robert Woodard Academy is a co-educational secondary academy first opened in 2009 as a direct replacement for the former Boundstone Community College. The school is located in the village of Sompting, West Sussex, and has around 1400 pupils aged 11-18, making it larger than the average secondary school. The school is sponsored by Woodard Schools, a large group of Anglican primary and secondary schools both state and independent, and is part of the Woodard Academies Trust along with five other academies.

The Sir Robert Woodard Academy works hard to promote a strong learning environment for its students, as well as foster a sense of community and responsibility.
