We are a rare find of a school where creativity is central to our ethos and success and where the Arts are celebrated.

We seek an excellent, ambitious and passionate Arts teacher to lead our Art and Textiles department. As a Performing and Visual Arts specialism school we value the vast opportunities the Arts offer our students and staff. This is demonstrated in our broad curriculum offer, generous staffing, excellent facilities and popular student Arts bursary programme.

If you are:

·        Successful as a teacher with existing examples of leading projects or teams

·        Committed to keeping the Arts in schools

·        Determined to nurture and develop student potential

·        Passionate about creativity across the curriculum

·        Ambitious for your students and the people around you.

Then we want to hear from you to lead our Art and Textiles team to even greater success.

Our ambitious, vibrant curriculum demonstrates a commitment to innovation and diversity and is taught by our team our team of 9 specialist teachers (including 3 Heads of Department) and 3 technicians. We offer 6 subjects across the school: Art, Photography, Graphics, Textiles up to A Level and Food and Graphic Products up to GCSE. Students at KS3 have both Arts and Technology lessons weekly and in Year 9 benefit from a specialism day every week where they dedicate themselves to the study of Performing and Visual Arts as an immersive experience prior to deciding their KS4 pathways.

Visual Arts is highly valued and cherished in our school. We want Arts staff who will love and champion it; innovate and inspire it and challenge and develop it further whilst growing as a leader themselves.

Applications are welcome from individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and specialisms within the Arts teaching industry. With proven success in our Specialist Status subjects, we have long established links with a variety of prestigious artistic and cultural organisations and professionals.

The Norwood School is a fantastic place to work and learn. We are committed to developing teachers who are passionate about their subject and determined to convey this enthusiasm to their students. Opportunities for internal promotion are maximised and encouraged. We want all of our employees to feel included, bringing their passion, creativity and individuality to work. We recognise the importance of workload and therefore provide 20% PPA time for our teachers and commit to rarely covering for colleagues. We value all cultures, backgrounds and experiences and we truly believe that diversity drives innovation. Join our family and help us inspire every child to choose a remarkable life.

For further details and an application form, please contact Katie Darnell-Smith, the Headteachers’ PA. Informal discussions with Deputy Headteacher and line manager for Visual Arts, James O’Sullivan, or visits to the school prior to the application are encouraged. Do note we will request digital portfolios of work produced by students (and your own work if applicable) as part of the interview process.

Ofsted reports

“Students’ achievement is best when teachers make good use of assessment to set a demanding pace. In a Year 9 mathematics lesson, rapid learning activities with regular assessment meant students quickly developed the confidence to apply the skills of expanding brackets to a variety of problems. Students benefited from immediate identification of their misconceptions and moved on without delay.”
