Job overview

HEAD of BOARDING, SMT MEMBER (German language skills required (C1/C2))

Start: as soon as possible

Contract type: full-time

Location: Klosterschule Roßleben, Germany

We are seeking a highly motivated, forward-thinking and caring individual to join us as Head of boarding overseeing boarding and supporting Roßleben’s international activities. In this role, you will be a member of the senior management team and work closely with the Headmaster in coordinating our activities as a Round Square member school, as well as in boarding pupil recruitment and admissions.

THE SCHOOL

Klosterschule Roßleben, founded in 1554, is one of Germany’s foremost boarding schools. As far back as 1190, it was a monastery under the protection of the von Witzleben family, who later founded the school. Today we rate highly as a non-confessional boarding school for girls and boys aged 11 to 18. Located in the middle of Germany (just 2 hours southwest of Germany´s capital Berlin) the campus is set in rural Thuringia, very much the cultural heart of Germany. The closest major towns are Leipzig, Erfurt, Halle and Weimar. Leipzig airport is an hour away by car. The school population comprises approximately 400 students of whom 75 are currently full boarders and 100 day boarders. Our students come from all over Germany: in addition, we have a smaller number of international students from various countries.

Internationalism is one of the principal aims of Roßleben. As a member of Round Square and of the German Boarding Schools’ Association (DIV), our school is in a position to develop and strengthen its global outlook and help students to become responsible global citizens.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As Head of Boarding you will be a member of the senior management team and will lead the boarding tutors’ team. In this role, you will be responsible for the well-being of the students including extracurricular activities, sports, homework and health. You will also be the first point of contact for the students’ parents, oversee the organization of the boarding houses, and set the tone to help students become self-confident, responsible and open-minded members of the community. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to represent the school at events and fairs and be key in the recruitment and induction of new students. Owing to your focus on pastoral care and boarding you will only teach a significantly reduced timetable of English, EFL or another subject.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Professional experience in a boarding school

• Professional training; hold subject qualifications and a PGCE; teach EFL and/or another subject

• Fluent in English, very good working knowledge of German (C1/C2 level)

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Flexibility regarding working hours, extracurricular activities and travel

• A positive attitude, strong dedication, and ability to act as a role model to students and other team members

• Self-motivated, proactive, hands- on mentality

• A good sense of humour and the ability to stay calm in challenging situations

WE OFFER

• a modern workplace in a stunning rural setting

• exciting professional challenges

• open working atmosphere in a committed team

• flexible working hours with an attractive remuneration package

• participation in a full meal plan, certified according to the guidelines of the German Society for Nutrition

• social and team-building events
