Position Information 

Ku-ring-gal High School is a growing, comprehensive, co-educational high school of 600 students with a multi-categorical support unit of 3 classes. It is situated in a stimulating natural environment adjacent to the Ku-ring­ gai Chase National Park. The school specialises in the provision of high-quality learning experiences with a focus on academic excellence, comprehensive curriculum delivery, learning engagement and creativity.  

Students are at the centre of Ku-ring-gai High School.  The community of Ku-ring-gai High School seeks to maximise opportunities for our students to grow and achieve their best through focussed learning opportunities and professional teaching instruction.  We seek to develop and empower self-motivated learners in a cohesive school that upholds its shared vision and values of engagement, resilience and harmony so that all students may be equipped and empowered to take responsibility for the world in which they will belong.  

The Ku-Ring-Gai Integrated Learning Centre (ILC) provides students with a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. We aim to help our students realise their full potential and develop the skills they need to succeed both academically and socially.

Our unit provides a comprehensive academic program combined with pathways toward integration into the mainstream school environment. We recognise that emotional and behavioural issues can impact a student's ability to learn, and we strive to create an environment where students feel supported, valued, and encouraged to learn. 

In the ILC, we are committed to fostering an environment where inclusion, equity and diversity are valued. We work to foster a sense of belonging for all students, regardless of their background or ability. Teachers in the unit enable students with special needs to succeed in their academic and personal lives, helping each student build the skills and confidence necessary to reach their academic and personal goals.

The majority of the school's equity funding will be used to support initiatives developed in the 2024-2027 Strategic Improvement Plan including a Literacy and Numeracy Learning Hub, individual learning adjustments and supports for identified students, and co-ordinated wellbeing initiatives. 

The focus on personal and academic success for all students will be ongoing and will include ongoing staff professional learning around deeper data analysis and student-based goal setting to assist students in their learning, appropriate subject choice and future pathway choices.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or recent school-based experience; plus experience in leading an inclusive educational experience where students feel welcomed and are learning to their fullest capability in a supportive educational environment.
  2. Demonstrated expertise in the management of student learning and behaviour, supported by adjustments and teaching strategies, tailored to meet the goals of individual learning plans. 
  3. Demonstrated capacity to manage and develop teachers and support staff in the skills and expertise necessary to ensure students are progressing in relation to their learning, wellbeing and independence. 
  4. Demonstrated expertise in the successful transition of individual students and their families in moving between schools and in working towards post school opportunities.
  
General Selection Criteria 

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
 
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
