The Brooksbank School is a vibrant, truly comprehensive 11-18 school, and with over 1700 students, is the largest in Calderdale. The school has a long and proud history, and while it has experienced a challenging recent period, it recently joined Together Learning Trust and is now at an exciting point in its and the Trust’s future. This is a fantastic opportunity for a new Headteacher to continue and develop the rapid improvements taking place, with the vision to create a world class school that serves its community by driving high performance and giving the students the best chance in life.

The school is highly regarded in its local community and further afield. It’s definition of success has never been limited solely to exam outcomes and attendance figures, important though those are. It helps students develop desirable qualities - such as self-esteem, resilience and cooperation - that will help them flourish as individuals and within society. The new Headteacher will lead a strong senior leadership team and an amazing staff team with a shared determination to improve and do their best for every student. You will have the autonomy to do the right things with the support of strong and effective colleagues at all levels.

Together Learning Trust is a thriving group of six schools in Calderdale and Kirklees, three secondary and three primary, inspiring over 5260 young people. The Trust is committed to running top quality schools that serve their communities and to providing magical learning experiences so that the children and young people can thrive and achieve great things. As Headteacher you will be empowered to build on recent improvements and to lead the school so that it can achieve the success its students deserve. Your development will also be a priority and as the Trust develops there will be important opportunities to play a key role in that, working with academies in the primary and secondary phases to improve the quality of education across the area.

This is an exciting time for the school, the Trust and for the new Headteacher. If you have a proven track record of school improvement as Headteacher, Head of School, Deputy Headteacher or similar this role offers an outstanding opportunity to lead the future development of The Brooksbank School. The successful candidate must be passionate about improving students’ life chances through the provision of the highest quality of education. Whilst displaying compassion you will work with colleagues to identify innovative ways to continually improve performance together with the focussed leadership to ensure successful outcomes are reached. The Headteacher’s positivity will engage and inspire students and staff while also building on the strong partnerships within the community. Above all, you will ensure that the students, their learning and developing their potential remains at the heart of all decisions.

CHARACTER BUILDING SINCE 1712

The Brooksbank School has a long and proud history serving the community of Elland. 1700 students make it the second largest comprehensive high school in Calderdale and one of very few to have maintained its own sixth form centre.

Brooksbank is a school that is absolutely committed to exceptional academic achievement: ranking highly amongst the top of non-selective schools in Calderdale. We are also a school which understands that true accomplishment lies beyond this success, and that dedication to the arts, sport, media and community will shape our students to become our future leaders.

2022 began a new chapter in The Brooksbank School’s journey as we joined Together Learning Trust. This is an exciting time to join a committed and supportive staff team, dedicated to school improvement and providing an excellent education for every student, every day. Just like our students, you’ll find opportunities here to shine and represent the #spiritofbbs.

Location:

Brooksbank is set in a stunning Calderdale location with beautiful green fields and open countryside, and just two minutes from Junction 24 of the M62 motorway to Leeds and Manchester. It also boasts easy access to urban culture and excitement in Halifax and Sowerby Bridge and is a ten-mile drive away from hotspot Hebden Bridge. It’s a great place to live and provides many opportunities for students.

Did you know:

  • Sporting success is in Brooksbank’s DNA. It teaches us the value of teamwork, determination and perseverance. We have fantastic facilities, including a FIFA-grade all-weather 3G sports field and a picturesque cycle track set in its own grounds.
  • Brooksbank celebrated one hundred years of teaching and learning in 2011. However, our school was founded 300 years earlier by its generous namesake, Joseph Brooksbank. The successful London haberdasher remembered his roots when he provided education for forty children in Elland. This philanthropy provided Brooksbank with firm foundations, and a legacy that still inspires as we provide our students with exceptional learning and growth opportunities in numerous dynamic and progressive teaching and enrichment spaces.
