JOB PURPOSE

To offer leadership, inspiration and guidance to the secondary teaching staff, to ensure the smooth day to day operations of the secondary school, and to work effectively as a key member of the Academic Leadership Team and with the Principal.

Responsibility for all day to day operations of the secondary school including the development of a high performance culture, for students and staff that is a core Nord Anglia Education expectation.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Staff development, including new staff induction and staff professional development reviews.
  • Support staff in setting targets on SuccessFactors.
  • Performance management of staff, including development of job descriptions, assessment against professional standards, work scrutinise, monitoring of attendance and punctuality, development of a culture of accountability and collective responsibility. Delegation of Performance management to curriculum coordinators.
  • Line management of the members of the Middle Leadership team, including direct and indirect supervision of their work, as appropriate. Coaching and development of the members of the MLT in their roles and in their general professional development.
  • Working closely with the HOP to create a “whole school” atmosphere.
  • Constantly working on improving teaching and learning across the whole secondary school.
  • Putting systems in place to track attainment and overall student progress within the secondary school.
  • Ensuring staff complete administrative tasks eg. Long, medium and short term plans, assessments schedules etc. and aiding curriculum coordinators to track these on “Firefly”.
  • Support ALN (Additional Learning Needs) and EA staff and help to implement programmes to support students with specific needs.
  • Support the Principal with NAE initiatives eg. Global Campus, EDI, NAU etc.
  • Planning and managing the efficient deployment of staff.
  • Support for the development of our Juilliard, MIT, Global Campus and UNICEF programmes etc.
  • Management of individual staff issues, including recommendations to the Principal about contract renewal or release.
  • With the support from the Principal, development, and implementation of action plans for areas of teaching and learning that give cause for concern.
  • Liaison with the Principal and Curriculum coordinators, in the purchasing of all teaching and learning resources.
  • Assisting the Principal in all secondary student recruitment matters, including meeting and engaging with prospective parents and students.
  • Liaison with and support for Head of Admissions, regarding new student orientation.
  • Ensure clear communication channels internally and with parents.
  • Responsible with the Principal for working with PSG (Parent Support Group) Parent Representatives.
  • Responsible for the look and feel of the secondary school, including general atmosphere, display material, electronic noticeboards, and tidiness.
  • Responsible for the overall pattern of events in the secondary school calendar, and for maintaining a reliable diary of forthcoming events.
  • Responsible generally for all secondary school events, through the events co-ordinator or other designated staff.
  • Responsible for managing Parent-Teacher conferences and awards ceremonies.
  • Responsible for supporting the Principal in managing budgets and expenditure.
  • With the Principal responsible for planning the secondary school timetable.


PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Qualifications/Training

  • Qualified Teacher status with a minimum of 7 years teaching experience


Experience / Knowledge

  • School curriculum (IGCSE/A level/IB) and associated assessment methods
  • Teaching within International Schools
  • A sound working knowledge of A level/IB and IGCSE
  • Up to date knowledge of curriculum developments
  • Application of effective teaching and learning theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children (e.g. classroom organisation and learning strategies)
  • Proven leadership and people management skills
  • A management background in educational institution
  • Budget management experience
  • Experience in an international setting
  • Proven curriculum management/development skills
  • Experience of timetable construction


Skills

  • The ability to develop good personal relationships within a team
  • An effective communicator (written and verbal) to a variety of audiences
  • High level of IT competency
  • Familiarity with management information systems
