Job overview

Intellectual ambition and academic scholarship lie at the heart of a King’s education, and we aim for every King’s pupil to be inspired to achieve their full academic potential.

Each year, the school employs a small number of graduates, doctoral and post-doctoral researchers in a part-time capacity as part of our academic enrichment programme.

These roles, called King’s Rossetti Academics, are in honour of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who attended King’s from 1837 to 1841. Rossetti is widely known as one of the most important figures in nineteenth-century British art and a renowned poet. He is also a very important inspirational figure within the academic enrichment programme at King’s: academic scholarships in the sixth form are named in his honour; Rossetti Day is an exciting off-curriculum day of inter-disciplinary workshops for the lower sixth; and Rossetti Society comprises a series of lectures on areas of literary interest, culminating in an annual dinner organised by the English department.

The purpose of the King’s Rossetti Academics programme is to inspire our pupils in their academic studies by increasing their access to current, intellectually stimulating and specialist knowledge.

The precise nature of the role for each King’s Rossetti Academic is shaped in accordance with departmental needs and the strengths of the candidate(s) appointed, with potential responsibilities including assistance with admissions tests preparation, providing strategic advice on university applications, and supporting the creation and implementation of academic enrichment resources and activities within the curriculum and co-curriculum.

We are currently inviting graduates, doctoral and post-doctoral researchers specialising in Economics and/or PPE to apply to become a King’s Rossetti Academic.

We expect employment to typically be between half a day and one day per week and so will fit well alongside current research or study commitments.

Whilst we welcome applications from overseas candidates who have a right to work in the UK, regrettably, we will be unable to apply for a visa due to the recent increase to the Skilled Worker salary threshold.

Values and vision

Our school was founded in 1829 by Royal Charter as the junior department of the university, King’s College London, and as such, intellectual aspiration and a progressive spirit are our heritage.

Today, we offer an education of the whole person, in Mind, Spirit and Heart, the enduring ethos of our foundation. Our guiding mission is to look outwards, to the world beyond school, and to life at 25: we look to the lives we are preparing our young people to lead, so that when the time comes, they are ready to forge the pathway they choose, and to make a purposeful impact.

We aim for each of our pupils to enjoy an exhilarating adventure of learning and to pursue academic excellence within a fun, caring, welcoming environment. Academic outcomes at A level, IB and GCSE consistently place King’s amongst the very top schools nationally and globally.  Supporting our pupils to grow strong in spirit, in the shared values and qualities of character that will ground them, is equally important.
