About us:

Nothing equips girls for the future better than Kahunui – our exclusive outdoor education and life skills centre in the Bay of Plenty – offering a unique and transformative experience for all Year 10 girls.

Kahunui is key to a full St Cuthbert’s education and equips every girl with life skills for the real world. Every Year 10 girl spends a month at our Bay of Plenty outdoor campus – a truly transformative experience she will remember forever.

St Cuthbert’s is the only girls’ school to offer a residential life skills outdoor learning programme on a separate campus, which is designed to advance all levels of fitness – social, physical, emotional and intellectual. Our girls emerge with new-found resilience and self-confidence, and a fresh appreciation of their home and family.

About the role:

We are looking for a suitably qualified Outdoor Instructor or teacher with the energy and enthusiasm to lead outdoor induction and training at Kahunui. Our small, dedicated team work together in all areas of the program from preparing students for outdoor excursions, gear maintenance and checks, outdoor education including tramping, sea kayaking and overnight camps to house tutor duties and supervision respectabilities on some morning and nights during each intake.

To be successful in this role, it is essential you have relevant experience, qualifications (ideally in either/both bush and sea kayaking), and the proven ability to mentor and guide both other instructors and young adolescence. Knowledge and experience in risk management and associated paperwork is important, as is the ability to effectively manage your time and consistently create a positive working and learning environment. You will be keen to share your experience to help grow instructors as well as providing a safe and engaging programme for our students.

Also required is a full New Zealand driver’s license or a valid overseas license and the ability to be flexible around work hours and patterns. The ability to support teenagers in an outdoor environment to develop life skills, resilience and skills sets to interact as effective team members is what we are striving for.

This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your skillsets, build and nurture positive working relationships and be part of an amazing journey.

Are you ready to make a difference?

St Cuthbert’s will assist you in securing your work visas and transport arrangements so don’t delay, apply today as these amazing positions are only open until 1 July.

St Cuthbert’s is a highly regarded independent school in New Zealand with a leadership role in the sector. The College provides an outstanding education to more than 1400 girls (including 125 boarders) at its campus in Epsom, Auckland. St Cuthbert’s was founded more than 100 years ago under the benefaction of the Presbyterian Church. Today the College is non-denominational and the Christian ethic at the heart of our community life is our motto, By Love Serve.

There has always been a great emphasis on serving others at St Cuthbert’s. Behind the motto lies a focus on developing well-rounded girls who hold good values and can instil these into the wider community. A St Cuthbert’s girl is encouraged to share, respect the needs of others, accept different viewpoints and negotiate peacefully. She is also inspired to work hard and take time for spiritual reflection. The College prides itself on not only having strong values, but on adding them to the curriculum and helping students develop an ethical consciousness. Through our College-wide Values programme, girls learn to translate the motto into practical terms – providing help to worthy causes and fundraising for not-for-profi¬t organisations.

Our academic results speak for themselves. We consistently achieve top in New Zealand for pass results in NCEA, have the greatest number of NZQA scholarships awarded to any New Zealand school and our girls achieve perfect pass rates in the International Baccalaureate programme.

Outside the classroom our sports teams demonstrate great talent and a fair play attitude. We have a number of elite sportswomen in the College, who we take great pride in supporting as they compete at national and international levels. The College also supports a number of musical endeavours from classical to contemporary and our students excel in competition each year.
