Cavendish School first opened its doors in 1979, in the town of Eastbourne, East Sussex. Originally a co-educational secondary comprehensive, the school became an academy in 2012 and expanded to become an all-through school in 2015, after extensive planning and redevelopment.

The addition of primary provision is intended to smooth the transition between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, although Cavendish School readily accepts pupils from other primary schools.

The Cavendish Education Trust was formed in 2021, which encompases Cavendish School, local Infant and Junior school. The trust develops our approach to a cohesive curriculum and a smooth transition between all key stages.

Executive Headteacher

Peter Marchant

Values and vision

As an all-through school, Cavendish goes to great lengths to foster a strong sense of community and togetherness among its pupils. In academic terms, the school’s pupils are encouraged to aim high, above even their target grades, and to have the necessary self-confidence and self-belief to carry them forward into adult life. Pupils are also encouraged to take responsibility for their own behaviour and their own learning, and to understand the value of their education and the school’s facilities and staff.

Ofsted report

Throughout the school, staff are hard-working and committed to ensuring that pupils thrive, feel safe and gain the confidence they need to achieve well.

Pupils’ behaviour is good and pastoral leaders know the pupils well. Strong relationships with staff help pupils feel secure and promote their personal development and leaders are ambitious for the school and its pupils.

Children make an excellent start to their learning in the Pre-School and Reception years.
