The Role – Learning Support Assistant
We are seeking to appoint a well organised, skilled and professional person to support students with SEN and others that require support to progress within the school. If you are passionate about young people, enjoy variety in your role and thrive on working in a busy environment this is a great opportunity for you. The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, relate well to young people. It is desirable but not essential to have Mathematics and English GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent).
Working as part of a team is a crucial aspect of the role within many different departments, so you must have a flexible attitude to react to different situations throughout the school day and the ability to use your own initiative within the learning environment. A brief outline of the role is as follows:
Responsibilities
• To assist in the education, supervision and welfare of students in the classes you are assigned to and around the school
• To create a positive atmosphere and professional impression that reflects our core values and ethos
• To assist with lesson cover for teacher absence when required
· 1-1 interventions and small group work with identified SEN young people
· Support whole school reading through individual reading sessions
· Helping to support the wellbeing of young people through interventions and planned activities
· To be a first aider for the UTC, providing support to students, staff and visitors

We are proud to announce the inception of a new school from the Thomas Telford Multi Academy Trust that opened to Year 7 students in September 2020, which sees the collaboration of the Outstanding Thomas Telford School with the West Midlands UTC, judged by Ofsted to be Good with Outstanding features. The strengths of the two schools have come together to offer students a truly ground-breaking opportunity.

Thomas Telford UTC is one of only two 11-18 University Technical Colleges in the country. Over the past 4 years we have recruited into Year 10 and Year 12. These students were joined by our first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2020. We are significantly over-subscribed in Year 7. We are based at the University of Wolverhampton’s Springfield Campus on the edge of the city centre with plans for significant expansion of the school building over the coming year.
