Enhanced Lecturer B of Science (Permanent) 

37 hour per week

The College is an anchor institution for the town and local area and we are ambitious for our students and the local economy.  This includes being a key partner in the recently formed Skills Partnership with Wigan Council, Edge Hill University, Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the college, as well as working with the GM Colleges Group and spearheading our role as lead FE provider in the newly formed Greater Manchester Institute of Technology.   The College has a range of exciting Capital projects in process which are further developing an exciting and contemporary learning environment for our students.k with stakeholders locally and across GM. Science at the College is growing and developing.  We have made major strides in the last 18months around school engagement, sampling, outreach events, the development of T-Levels and associated partnerships.  As these areas further develop and its influence spreads, the team are looking for a Lecturer B of Science to further support its development.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed person who understands the direction the team is taking with the determination and dedication required to achieve these aims. The successful person, will support the Head of Department in the management and development of the team; share the ethos of hard work that all the team are committed to as well as taking the lead for quality assurance processes.  They will play a key role in shaping and driving the College’s recruitment strategies, and in particular the 16-18 growth strategy.  They will be central to all the major College events both internally and externally and ensure that these run smoothly and efficiently.  

In Science we offer a range of qualifications from Level 2 through to Level 5 and the successful person may be required to teach across these.  The successful candidate will have a strong track record of excellent results and proven experience in curriculum development to enhance the student experience.

Working alongside our strong network of employers, the successful candidate would ensure learners receive excellent work experience placements to prepare them to become outstanding ambassadors in the science industry.

Wigan and Leigh College is a further education college in Wigan, Greater Manchester, which has been providing education and training locally for more than 150 years. It employs around 1,000 staff and has a student roll of about 17,000. Further education students can choose the A-level professional honours programme or vocational qualifications such as BTECs. An expanding higher education portfolio of foundation degrees, top-up degrees, higher nationals and certificates is available to adult students of all ages, both full-time and part-time. 

Wigan and Leigh College operates from several sites across the borough: the Parson’s Walk Centre, School for the Arts and Pagefield Centre are in Wigan, close to the town centre. The Image Centre and Leigh College are close to the town centre of Leigh.
