About the Role

St Francis Xavier College is seeking to recruit a Coordinator of STEM to join our team. The STEM Coordinator plays a vital role in the College by providing staff and student support and advice in teaching and learning and creating an environment where teaching and learning are valued.

The College is seeking a person who is committed to the vision of the College ‘Living the truth, leading with courage, learning for life’ who is invested in and who will promote the mission of Catholic education. The successful applicant will be an experienced educator, will have demonstrated successful experience in curriculum leadership and will possess initiative, integrity and vision.

The STEM Coordinator provides expert leadership in curriculum, teaching and learning in junior and senior studies, utilising best practice in current research, evidence and innovation to meet the needs of all learners. As a member of the Curriculum Leadership team the STEM Coordinator reports to the Assistant Principal Teaching and Learning and to the Principal in realising the vision and mission of the College.

This appointment is temporary to replace an employee who is leave or secondment.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a St Francis Xavier College STEM Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

• Contribute to bringing the vision of the College to life in their leadership at faculty and whole school levels
• Lead and model high impact teaching practices in the STEM faculty to progress student engagement and achievement
• Utilise research and evidence to lead best practice in curriculum, pedagogy and faculty decision making
• Utilise data and evidence to inform the direction of the faculty
• Lead a vision for contemporary assessment practice to inform student learning
• Identify the needs of students and foster their development at an appropriate level, modifying curriculum and assessment where appropriate
• Collaborate with the Assistant Principal Teaching and Learning to provide educational leadership in the promotion of Catholic ethos, policy development and in the design and implementation of quality curriculum and assessment
• Ensure that the Assistant Principal Teaching and Learning is kept informed about significant issues relating to students’ academic progress, as well as Assistant Principal Student Wellbeing in regard to student wellbeing
• Foster and model conflict resolution processes to ensure harmonious working relationships
• Lead staff through a process of professional discussions to develop individual professional development plans
• Convene faculty meetings to enable strategic planning, collaboration and discussion.

Qualifications

• ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
• ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) registration
• Relevant teaching qualifications

Essential Criteria

It is essential that the successful applicant have:

1.  A commitment to the Catholic Ethos of the College
2. Extensive teacher experience and demonstrated curriculum experience
3. Highly sophisticated written and verbal communication skills for a range of audiences
4. Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum, professional practice in education, relevant legislation, and current research in education
5. The ability to work collaboratively as a member of the Curriculum Leadership Team, to plan and implement whole school goals and to affect change.
6. Demonstrated experience in implementing policy and strategic directions to improve student learning and wellbeing
7. The ability to form productive partnerships and constructive relationships with staff, students, families and College partners
8. The ability to lead administrative tasks to ensure the College meets it legislative and regulatory responsibilities
